Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
Liaise with the Planning Authority, Ministry of Environment, Internal Departments and other government departments with reference to issues related to Groundwater quality and quantity affecting drainage as a whole.
Formulation of specific projects associated with groundwater occurrence and movement in relation to drainage. Prepare PSA s for the specific projects.
Liaison with the various Drainage engineers within Drainage dept. to ensure conformity to the overall plan and to highlight areas prone to drainage problems.
To assist in initiating new work related to groundwater level rising and prepare design briefs for consultants.
To assess qualitative and quantitative groundwater occurrence beneath urban areas.
To assist in managing projects related to shallow groundwater monitoring. Reviewing bi-annual monitoring reports prepared by the consultants and suggests improvements.
Supervise drilling and installation of groundwater monitoring wells.
Supervise installation of automatic data loggers on groundwater monitoring wells and make sure accurate data is being collected.
Supervise the assessment of suitable sites for monitoring in relation to urbanization and associated drainage issues.
Supervise the collection of water samples for detailed chemical analysis.
Supervise the collection of water level data in the field.
Review the interpretation of groundwater level and quality data submitted through consultants.
Review pumping test data analysts.
Assist in developing conceptual and digital groundwater flow and solute transport models.
Maintaining and updating these models with new data becoming available.
Review of technical reports submitted by consultants related to groundwater.
Assist all Drainage engineers in handling geotechnical investigations and reviewing reports.
To look for alternate groundwater disposal options in the light of chemical nature of groundwater.
Maintain groundwater related database.
Supervise injection wells; all the procedures from designing drilling, installation and continuous injection of TSE/surface, groundwater.
To be familiar with international standards of performing various tasks related to groundwater monitoring.
Liaise and coordinate with the administration procedures of the Drainage Dept.
Audit consultants submissions in terms of quality and conformance to the requirements of the design briefs
Technical advice on drainage matters specific to groundwater
Assist in the preparation of progress reports
Assist in the development and implementation of a quality assurance system
Liaise with other utilities
Desired Candidate Profile
BSc / BEng in Civil Engineering from a recognized university
Up to 10 years experience in groundwater monitoring and injection wells in the disciplines of sewerage infrastructure and storm/groundwater drainage systems
Experience in groundwater resources assessment, evaluation, and development
Experience in automatic data loggers and online portals
Experience in master planning/drainage area/assets studies of large areas is desirable
Experience in designing of injection, monitoring and water wells: drilling, installation, and development of water wells; design and execution of aquifer tests as well as interpretation of the tests
Experience in projects involving government departments; public and private organizations
Familiar with groundwater-related software i.e., Hydrogeoanalyst, Aquifer Pro, AquaChem, Visual ModFlow, FeFlow, etc.
Competence in handling groundwater modelling software
Knowledge of environmental and safety legislation and requirements would be advantageous
