Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in the ICU setting, ensuring adherence to UNSOS policies and clinical protocols.

Ensure clinical practices are in line with UNSOS protocols and international standards.

Participate in the development and review of clinical procedures and guidelines to ensure safe and effective ICU care.

Maintain accurate, detailed, and up-to-date patient records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with international standards.

Participate in regular clinical audits and reviews to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.

Maintain patient care documentation to meet legal and organizational standards.

Ensure safe staffing levels and facilitate a supportive and competent working environment.

Monitor and manage critically ill patients, ensuring early identification of changes in clinical status and appropriate intervention.

Adhere to infection control protocols, ensuring a sterile environment and prevention of hospital-acquired infections.

Participate in the identification and reporting of safety incidents or near misses, suggesting improvements for patient safety.

Regularly check and maintain medical equipment, ensuring that it is in optimal working condition to provide safe patient care.

Engage in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and service quality within the ICU.

Actively participate in training programs, workshops, and ongoing education related to critical care nursing.

Support the implementation of evidence-based practices and guidelines to improve care delivery and clinical outcomes.

Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to review ICU cases and provide recommendations for improvements in care and protocols.

Provide care that aligns with the latest evidence-based guidelines and best practices for critical care.

Ensure that clinical interventions, pharmacological treatments, and medical procedures are consistent with contemporary guidelines.

Apply evidence-based strategies to prevent complications such as pressure ulcers, ventilator-associated pneumonia, and other ICU-related issues.

Provide advanced nursing care to critically ill patients, including administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and managing ventilators and other life support equipment.

Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to create and implement care plans for critically ill patients.

Offer family support and education, ensuring that family members are kept informed about the patient s condition and treatment plan.

Participate in emergency response situations and provide high-quality care in times of crisis or disaster.

Engage in regular performance reviews and feedback sessions to continually improve clinical skills and overall care delivery.

Promote ethical behaviour and alignment with Aspen Medical s Social Purpose and B Corp principles.

Perform any additional tasks and responsibilities as required by the role or organisation.

Desired Candidate Profile

A first-level degree/diploma as a Registered Nurse with a minimum of three years progressive post-qualification clinical experience in general nursing.

Postgraduate training in intensive/ critical care/anaesthesia/emergency care nursing or equivalent with a minimum of three (3) years post specialist qualification.

Currently registered and licensed to practice nursing and apply to specialty without supervision in own country or another UN member state.

English proficiency- a minimum of Level B 2 is required.

Experience working in international, multi-disciplinary, or conflict zone settings.

Familiarity with trauma and emergency care in a challenging environment.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with a diverse, multidisciplinary medical team.

High levels of empathy, cultural sensitivity, and professionalism when working with patients from diverse backgrounds.

Advanced skills in managing ICU technology and life support systems.

Fluency in English, with additional language skills being an advantage.

Shifts: Flexible working hours, with the expectation to work weekends, holidays, and night shifts when required 24/7.

Location: The role is based in Somalia within the UNSOS mission area.

Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, such as standing for extended periods in high stress conditions and managing physically intensive situations.
