Irrigation Technician Reliant HR Consultancy

Job Purpose

The Irrigation Technician is responsible for planning, installing, and maintaining irrigation systems to ensure efficient water usage and healthy vegetation growth. The role involves system design, equipment installation, troubleshooting, and conducting regular maintenance while ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.

Key Accountabilities

• Inspect and prepare irrigation equipment and tools for daily tasks.
• Drive to client/project locations and conduct site inspections.
• Test soil and vegetation to determine irrigation requirements.
• Map out designated areas for irrigation system installation.
• Dig trenches and install pipes, valves, and irrigation lines.
• Install pumps, outdoor water tanks, and electrical timer systems.
• Connect and integrate water-recycling systems.
• Test and calibrate irrigation systems using computer software.
• Conduct routine maintenance checks to ensure optimal system performance.
• Troubleshoot and replace faulty parts and components.
• Maintain accurate progress reports, documentation, and related paperwork.
• Perform any additional tasks as assigned by the reporting manager.

Qualifications

• Diploma/Degree in Agriculture, Irrigation, or related field.
• Minimum 3–5 years of relevant work experience.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong communication skills in English (Arabic is an advantage).
• In-depth knowledge of irrigation systems and electrical timer installations.
• Basic plumbing knowledge is preferable.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift heavy objects.
• Understanding of soil types, vegetation, and climatic conditions.
• Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Install, maintain, and repair irrigation systems, ensuring optimal water distribution and efficiency across various landscapes.
• Conduct regular inspections and troubleshooting of irrigation components, identifying and resolving issues promptly to minimize downtime.
• Calibrate and program irrigation controllers based on weather conditions and plant requirements, ensuring water conservation and plant health.
• Manage the installation of drip systems, sprinklers, and other watering systems tailored to specific crop or landscape needs.
• Collaborate with landscape architects and agronomists to design irrigation layouts that maximize water efficiency and meet project specifications.
• Utilize advanced technology such as moisture sensors and automated systems to enhance irrigation practices and reduce water waste.
• Maintain accurate records of irrigation systems, repairs, and maintenance schedules to ensure compliance with regulations and industry standards.
• Perform seasonal assessments and adjustments to irrigation systems to adapt to changing environmental conditions.
• Stay updated on industry trends, innovations, and best practices in irrigation technology and water management.
• Provide training and support to junior staff or clients on proper irrigation techniques and system operation.
