Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Installation, configuration, and maintenance of IP Cameras and NVR/DVR systems.
- Designing camera layouts for optimal coverage and setting up remote viewing capabilities (Mobile/Web).
- Troubleshooting connectivity issues and hardware failures.
- Knowledge of video analytics (motion detection, line crossing) is a plus.
Networking & Infrastructure
- Structured cabling (Cat6/Fiber) and termination.
- Configuration of Routers, Switches (Managed/Unmanaged), and Access Points.
- Network administration: VLAN setup, Port Forwarding, DHCP, Static IPs, and Firewall management.
- Ensuring robust Wi-Fi coverage and network security protocols.
Server Maintenance
- Setup and maintenance of physical or virtual servers (Windows Server, Linux/Ubuntu, or NAS environments like Synology/TrueNAS).
- Managing backups, RAID configurations, and storage health.
- Running system updates, patches, and monitoring server uptime.
Home & Office Automation
- Smart Device Integration: Installation and configuration of smart lighting (Lutron, Philips Hue, Shelly), automated curtains and blinds, motorized windows, and climate control systems.
- Access Control & Gate Automation: Installation and integration of automated gate motors, comprehensive access control systems (biometric readers, keypads, RFID, smart locks), and video intercoms.
- Centralized Control Systems: Setup and programming of automation hubs/controllers (e.g., Home Assistant, Control4, Crestron, Savant, or KNX systems) to create a unified user interface.
- Energy Management: Installing and configuring energy monitoring systems to track usage and optimize efficiency through automated scheduling.
Programming & Scripting
- Utilizing basic programming skills to create custom scripts for automation logic (Python, Bash, or C++ is preferred).
- API integration: Connecting different subsystems (e.g., linking the CCTV system to the lighting system via API).
- Troubleshooting firmware and software glitches at a code/log level.
Desired Candidate Profile
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 2+ years of experience in low-voltage electronics, IT support, or security system installation.
- Networking: Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, Gateway, and Subnetting.
- Hardware: Comfortable using power tools, climbing ladders, and running cable in residential or commercial settings.
- Programming: Functional knowledge of at least one scripting language (Python, JavaScript, or Lua) or experience with Linux command line.
- Problem Solving: Ability to diagnose complex issues where hardware and software intersect.
Preferred (Bonus) Skills
- Certifications: CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or Security+.
- Experience with Virtualization (Proxmox, VMware, Docker).
- Knowledge of IoT protocols (Zigbee, Z-Wave, MQTT).
- Electrical wiring basics (Low voltage vs. High voltage).
Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field (Preferred).
- Associate degree or Technical Diploma in Network Administration, Building Automation, or Electrical Systems.
- Relevant vocational training or trade school certification in Low Voltage Systems, Security Technology, or IT Infrastructure.
- High School Diploma or GED required; additional technical coursework is highly valued.
