Roles & Responsibilities

The Jordan INGO Forum Director is overall responsible for facilitating, leading and quality management of the work of the INGO Forum ensuring it remains relevant to the needs of its members and is appropriate to the context.

The INGO Forum Director will have purview of INGO engagement across JIF and engage predominantly at the high-level elevating operational concerns in strategic decision-making mechanisms and processes and also engaging in regional and global platforms to raise the profile of the JIF context.

The following is a brief description of the role:

  • Provides leadership to the Forum by encouraging delegation, accountability and teamwork.
  • Strategic Coordination and Representation - Ensure transparent coordination mechanisms and regular information sharing between INGOs and other stakeholders. Enable INGOs to coordinate at strategic and operational level in Jordan by facilitating high quality, regular meetings of Country Directors, thematic working groups.
  • Provides leadership to the Forum by encouraging delegation, accountability and teamwork.
  • High level representation of INGO interests in external meetings and planning efforts nationally and globally; and strategically guide and encourage common advocacy and policy engagement.
  • Proactive agenda setting; facilitating a space for INGO-INGO collaboration and with other stakeholders; enabling sharing of information and analysis for effective decision-making.
  • Oversees the development, review and implementation of JIF Advocacy Strategy in close collaboration with the JIF Advocacy Working Group, while mobilizing and leveraging support from member organizations.
  • Responsible for the budgeting, budget management and accountability with the support of NRC s finance and grants teams.
  • Able to appreciate political necessity and delicate policy issues in humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding work and the application of principles to programming.
  • Acting as focal point for information/experience sharing with and among NGOs on relevant issues including managing NGO Forum and INGO membership, contact lists and mailing lists
  • Manages the Secretariat staff and consultants. Ensure responsiveness to staff, ready to support them as needed, an advocate for staff well-being.
  • Ensures the development of and compliance with procedures for the Forum and ensure compliance with and adherence to JIF approved policies and procedures and to and donor policies, guidance, and procedures.

Fundraise for the JIF, in coordination with the SC, to ensure sufficient funds to maintain operations of the Forum.

Desired Candidate Profile

What we are looking for

Experience in a protracted crisis or post-conflict setting with an INGO in senior management role (e.g. Country Director or similar levels) with additional experience working in a coordination role in not only a humanitarian but a development setting is preferred.

Proven high profile management and strong advocacy experience in conflict-affected countries in humanitarian context.

Knowledge of the Jordan context or previous experience working in the region is required with experience in administration and coordination of coalition or secretariat functions an asset.

Fluency in English, both written and verbal, with strong writing and editing skills. Knowledge of Arabic is an added value.
