Roles & Responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Strict directions for the appropriate use of safety measures, including warning labels and provision of personal protective equipment.
  • Facilitate the provision of quality laboratory services for pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases of testing.
  • Comply with CBAHI Standards, Public Health Authority, MOH, and other relevant regulations.
  • Review verification procedures used are adequate to determine accuracy, precision, and other pertinent performance characteristics of the method.
  • Ensure that laboratory personnel are performing the test methods as required for accurate results.
  • Always facilitate the availability of basic laboratory services.
  • Ensure that the laboratory has adequate and functional space to maintain safe and proper working conditions including, but not limited to; safe storage of reagents, supplies, consumables, samples, records, paraffin blocks, glass slides & appropriate area for each laboratory activity/section.
  • Assess the availability of the following facilities: including but not limited to; adequate water taps and sinks, temperature and humidity control, ventilation, lighting, safety signs & well-maintained floors, walls, ceilings, bench tops and sinks.
  • Devise procedures to ensure that the prepared/reconstituted reagents and solutions are labeled with; content, concentration/titer, preparation date, expiration date & storage requirements.
  • Collaborate with the laboratory staff to select test systems carefully and monitor their performance.
  • Assure that the quality control assessment is regularly reviewed to monitor the test method s performance over time.
  • Ensure that personnel follow the manufacturer s directions and good laboratory practices.
  • Implement policies and procedures regarding receipt documentation, inspection, and testing (as applicable) of incoming critical material or service.
  • Develop policies and procedures on inventory management and tracking the use of critical materials, supplies, and reagents to ensure the following, but not limited to; materials are used within their expiration dates, new reagents lot numbers are tested against old lots or suitable reference materials before use, kit components are used within the kit lot number & lot number use is traceable to patient/blood donors or inclusive dates of use.
  • Ensure critical laboratory supplies and reagents are stored according to the manufacturer s recommendations under controlled conditions or in appropriate storage device & the conditions are monitored using an appropriate temperature monitoring system.
  • Ensure testing of water quality that is required for procedures.
  • Policies and procedures on test method validation including verification of accuracy, sensitivity, carryover acceptability, analytic measurement range (AMR) & approval of the method for clinical use.
  • Develop a process for establishing or evaluating reference ranges/intervals for each analyte and specimen source.
  • Implement policies and procedures defining the calibration, adjustment, and/or standardization of critical laboratory instruments such as stopwatches, pipettes, balances, thermometers, etc.
  • Devise processes for the control of deviations and exceptions. Deviations and exceptions warranted by clinical situations or special circumstances are justified,
    pre-approved and documented on a case-by-case basis.
  • Ensure the laboratory has a written description of the format and contents of its reports.
  • Direct protocols for appropriate maintenance of laboratory records.
  • Develop procedures to confirm that the equipment is regularly maintained as evidenced by a readily accessible record of preventive maintenance.
  • Regular maintenance of department as per quality and infection control guidelines.
  • Develop a process for the provision of intraoperative surgical pathology services.
  • Develop appropriate procedures & policies for the blood bank services.
  • Ensure the laboratory has a specimen collection manual that includes the following but is not limited to, methods of patient preparation & collection procedures, quality, and quantity of sample, specimen labeling or handling, transportation & rejection criteria.

Qualification & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor s Degree in medical Lab Technology or equivalent.
  • Current Registration in the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a Laboratory setting.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Knowledge of regulations established by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties related to healthcare practices.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of quality assurance practices.
  • Experience in developing policies & procedures to ensure effective management.
  • General overview of contamination, health hazards, and safety protocols.
  • Exceptional documentation skills for test validations.
  • Skills to improvise operational efficiency, quality management, interdisciplinary collaboration, and budgetary responsibilities.
  • Abilities to operate & monitor laboratory instruments.
  • Expertise in laboratory principles, methods, practices, and standards to ensure quality patient care.
  • Good knowledge of all utilized laboratory equipment and tools.
  • The ability to conduct laboratory analysis in his field of specialization.
  • The acquaintance with the English language and medical terminology.
  • Effective communication and establishing good relations with others.
