Roles & Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Laboratory Technician Lead and/or other designee, the Laboratory Technician is trained to carry out laboratory tests and operate laboratory equipment under the supervision of a certified medical laboratory technologist. They examine body fluid samples in a laboratory setting to detect parasites, bacteria, and other microorganisms that may be causing the patient s disease. In order to diagnose and treat patients, laboratory tests are carried out in toxicology, hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and immunology. The duties of a medical laboratory technician include: Keep the laboratory and all equipment clean; Prepare the laboratory equipment and specimens for tests; Collect patient s body fluids for lab test and analysis; Analyze and record test results in order to issue reports that utilize graphs, charts, and narratives; Perform blood counts and blood tests for transfusion purposes; Assist medical laboratory technologists in less complex laboratory tests and procedures.

  • Conducts laboratory tests using testing equipment, such as colorimeter, turbidimeter, pH and TDS meters.
  • Calibrate water testing equipment daily.
  • Driving to various locations to perform water quality analysis at the point of use.
  • Produces bulk potable and non-potable water using mobile ROWPU and other water production equipment.
  • Produces Class I and Class II water products in accordance with standards in TB MED 576, 577, and other required regulations.
  • Trained to carry out laboratory tests and operate laboratory equipment under the supervision of a certified medical laboratory technologist.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications: One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
    • A valid driver s license and the ability to obtain a U. S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator s License and host nation Driver s License, is required.
  • Education:
    • BS in laboratory sciences. Must provide a copy of the diploma or college transcripts.
  • Experience:
    • Must have a minimum of five (5) years experience as a laboratory Technician.
  • Licenses/Certifications:
    • A certified laboratory technician is preferred, however, this requirement may be supplanted if the individual can demonstrate mastery in the field through advanced studies within a related discipline or through hands on work experience.
    • Individuals not certified must be reviewed and approved by the Director of Health Services.
    • Posses valid home Country license.
  • OCN Qualifications and Experience:
    • BS in laboratory sciences required.
    • Must have a minimum of five (5) years experience as a laboratory technician.
    • Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a host nation Driver's license.
    • Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.
  • Skills:
    • Keep the laboratory and all equipment clean;
    • Prepare the laboratory equipment and specimens for tests;
    • Collect patient s body fluids for lab test and analysis;
    • Analyze and record test results in order to issue reports that utilize graphs, charts, and narratives;
    • Perform blood counts and blood tests for transfusion purposes;

  • Working Conditions:
    • Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
    • Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, dry, dusty, desert environment with average temperatures of 30 degrees in the winter and 130 degrees in the summer months).
    • Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
    • Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.
    • Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
    • Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
