Main tasks and responsibilities
Scope
Process Optimization
The systematic approach of analyzing data, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing changes to optimize production (improving efficiency and effectiveness) of various processes including distillation, cracking, hydrotreating, reforming, and blending, among others, to improve their performance by minimizing energy consumption, reducing operating costs, and maximizing production.
Process Control Real-time monitoring, simulation, modelling, and data analytics to enable the identification process inefficiencies, reduce waste and emissions, and optimize the use of raw materials, energy, and other resources.
Product Quality Data analytics that aim to meet regulatory requirements for product quality in process installations, upgrades, and maintenance
Suhar Refinery
CDUs, VDU & DCU Crude / Vacuum Distillation
RFCC: Residue Fluidized Catalytic Cracking
HCU, Hydrotreaters HGU
Hydrocracker Unit
Hydrotreaters: Hydro-desulfurization (HDS) to remove sulfur and nitrogen compounds from natural gas and other refined petroleum products like deisel, gasoline, and jet fuel.
Hydrogen Generation Unit: Pre-desulfurisation section, followed by desulfurisation, reforming and process gas cooling with high temperature shift conversion to increase the hydrogen content of the process gas.
Offsite Operations: Tank Farm, Waste water Treatment, Sulfur Granulation, Non-Plant areas
Utilities: Steam, fuel, various waters, air, electrical power, and sewers
Accountabilities:
Providing timely technical solutions to improve the refinery gross margins through OPEX optimization and proactive monitoring to ensure archive the rolling plan target in terms of quality and volume.
Leads the analysis of data and identifies opportunities to optimize operations within and across process units or equipment.
Participates in complex design work conducted by internal or external engineering resources and reviews it to fit with design intent.
Resolves issues that have a direct business impact, using advanced problem-solving tools and techniques and balancing multiple considerations (e.g. economic, operating, maintenance, technical).
Utilizes and develops process simulation tools. Validate and maintain up to date Unit simulation models.
Develops Heat and Material Balances, Process Flow Diagrams, designs minor plant modifications, and follows through to project completion.
Appraises plants operations by using simulation and modelling techniques and identifies opportunities for optimization improvements.
Performs Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and proposes corrective actions for performance improvement.
Participates in HAZOP studies for any modification of existing facilities at SR.
Preparation of preliminary documents for tender submissions.
Prepare Technical and Commercial evaluation reports and make recommendations to management on Catalyst Chemicals purchase
Develops technical procedures in line with modifications and new systems implemented.
Validate the designs, analysis or finding of Junior/Senior staff.
Technical Authority responsible for Functional Review of Management of Change (MoC)
Regular liaison with the catalyst & technology vendors/engineering contractors to review industry trends, improve unit performance, profitability, operability & opportunities for new investments.
Reviews the Monthly/Quarterly reports prepared by Process Engineers.
Provide the input into budget preparation under the guidance of Team Leader.
Contribute to improving processes and procedure within the department in conjunction with Team Leader.
Initiates self-improvement plans and expedites learning trough the participation in effective training programmes.
Contributes to the technical development of Omani engineer through mentoring and training as required by PES Lead.
Internal: Operators, Shift supervisor, Maintenance Coordinator, Process Trainer, Technical Services Department, Process Engineers in production. All TSD Team Leaders and Engineers, Operations, Maintenance and Procurement & Contracts.
External: Contractors, Vendors & Suppliers
Notable Working Conditions. Field Operations and office environment, Moderate to intensive computer screen use.
Desired Candidate Profile
Location: OQ RPI Sohar
Job Purpose:
Provides strong professional technical expertise for the Leadership, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of process engineering-based activities at Sohar Refinery RPI Assets, under TL Process Engineering scope s, through; (1) Leading the resolution of complex operational problems in Sohar refinery 2, Identifying opportunities to optimize the operation in Sohar Refinery 2, and (3) (3) Guidance and support to the operations and the corresponding engineering, maintenance, and operation teams; in order to ensure projects and service targets are achieved efficiently and to optimum standards.
The position will act in accordance with the Group s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines, and standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Omani s government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.
Education requirements Minimum qualification required is a Bachelor s Degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
Language requirements Excellent knowledge of written, read, and spoken English (required)
