Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
Part of the Road Safety and Traffic Management Unit (Road Safety) providing technical direction and guidance on various design, operational and management aspects of road and infrastructure projects from a safety perspective.
Assume responsibility and represent Design Department for all aspects related to highway engineering safety.
Liaison with engineers and technicians within the organization and with external consultants and contractors.
Carrying out various stages of road safety audits for road projects in accordance with procedures.
Review road designs from a road safety perspective at various stages including remedial works, local roads and expressway class roads.
Carrying out road safety related inspections and design of collision reduction schemes.
Providing road safety advice and guidance into various road infrastructure projects.
Carrying out Accident Investigation and Prevention studies.
Responsible for the preparation of route reports, location reports and area report as required by the organization.
Assist with the implementation of the Road Safety Action Plan.
Preparation of Non-Motorized User (NMU) Safety Reports and NMU Audit Reports.
Perform other related duties based on the requirements of the organization.
Desired Candidate Profile
BSc/BEng or equivalent degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university.
MSORSA or equivalent as approved by the Engineer is desirable.
Minimum demonstrable experience of 4 years as a Lead Senior Road Safety Specialist.
CEng, PE, PEng or equivalent Chartership is desirable.
Minimum 18 years of relevant demonstrable experience in road safety.
Minimum of 4 years of relevant working experience with management capacity.
Experience in Highway design and traffic engineering studies and analysis.
Recent and continual experience in Road Safety and Road Safety Audits.
In depth knowledge of American & British design standards and procedures.
Working knowledge of written and spoken Arabic would be advantageous.
Excellent written and verbal English language communication skills.
Master's degree in Civil Engineering (Highways / Traffic / Transportation) from an institute of repute is highly desirable.
To have undertaken formal Accident Investigation or Road Safety Engineering training.
Thorough knowledge and awareness of HA standards (DMRB), recent road safety research and understanding of road safety operating models such as Safe System and Haddon Matrix.
Proficiency in computer and software applications.
Ability to work effectively with colleagues, seniors, team members and external stakeholders.
Ability to fully understand, explain, present, and solve complex technical problems for technical and non-technical audiences.
Confident in liaising with other interdisciplinary technical specialists in addressing safety issues on infrastructure projects.
