Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
The key role and responsibilities of a lecturer should include, but are not exclusive to, teaching and learning support in the following areas:
-Using appropriate teaching and learning support and assessment methods to effectively and appropriately transfer knowledge.
-Developing student skills by applying appropriate approaches to teaching.
-Identifying the learning needs of students and defining appropriate learning objectives.
-Defining adequate, appropriate and measurable learning outcomes.
-Ensuring that content, methods of delivery and learning materials meet the defined learning outcomes.
-Developing teaching materials, methods and approaches to enhance the delivery of the subject area.
-Applying innovative and appropriate teaching techniques and material creates interest, understanding and enthusiasm among students.
-Finding ways to challenge thinking, foster debate and develop the ability of students to engage in critical and rational thinking.
-Applying knowledge acquired from research to teaching to enhance the student experience.
-Supervising students' work including projects, field trips and, where appropriate, placements.
-Providing academic advising services on study skills and helping students at risk of not meeting all learning outcomes.
-Selecting appropriate assessment methods, setting criteria, assessing and marking work and examinations, and providing student feedback.
-Identifying areas where current provision requires revision or improvement.
-Assisting program and course coordinators in reviewing program and course content and materials and updating when required.
-Ensure that program and course design and delivery comply with the quality standards outlined in the quality manual.
-The employee is required to strictly adhere and comply with Sohar University policies, bylaws, and regulations that are related to their work.
-Any other assigned tasks that fall within the competence of the department/faculty.
Desired Candidate Profile
Qualifications: Usually, a master's degree in a discipline taught by the Faculty, from a recognised University.
Knowledge & Skills:
General:
-Fully conversant with the Omani labour law.
-Excellent written and spoken English/Arabic (following the department /faculty)
-Ability to use computers and relevant computer applications for the job.
-Clear and effective communicator.
-Interpersonal skills
-Resourceful (know where to find information for problem-solving).
-Team player, leads and supports changes to improve business performance
Specifics:
-Aware of the Health and Safety requirements of staff at work and environmental conservation programs.
- Reasonable research experience.
Relevant Experience:
Good experience in tertiary teaching and research.
