Job Purpose

At the Aircraft Appearance Centre, we elevate the aircraft's look with expert livery, precision paintwork, and impeccable interior finishes. Our advanced paint facility boasts a fully automated, climate-controlled hangar that accommodates aircraft up to the Airbus A380. From stunning exterior designs to flawless interior detailing, our skilled team ensures your aircraft stands out with exceptional quality and precision. Our paint workshops work to the highest standards of repair and application of surface finishing materials to ensure component conformity and aesthetic ambience. They manufacture decals to ensure airworthiness and customer comfort.


The Manager Aircraft Appearance Centre will plan, organize and manage the Paint Hanger, Paint Shop, decal shop and paint renewal activities throughout the business in an efficient, productive, safe and cost-effective manner. This will include all internal and external surface treatments that would impact the airworthiness and aesthetic appearance of the Emirates brand.

In this role you will:

Development:

  • Advise and assist in the set-up, design, layout and environmental controls of the surface finishing facility in DXB and DWC.
  • Plan and develop a strategy to increase productivity and capability of the production flow through both the paint hangar and paint workshop.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with aircraft manufacturers and paint/coating experts/systems vendors to ensure the best service is provided to the Emirates fleet.
  • Supervise and inspect new aircraft deliveries to ensure adherence to company specs and requirements are maintained.
  • Develop methodology to monitor paint retention, deterioration and repair schemes; feedback findings to manufacturers to enhance the technical specifications and product.
  • Plan the optimum utilization of resources in the surface finishing facility.
  • Liaise with the planning and maintenance departments for task scheduling, including scheduled paint work during heavy maintenance input.

Leadership:

  • Provide technical support, leadership, and advice to all staff on Painting matters within the Hangar & Paint Shop areas and to other Emirates departments as required.
  • Lead the team to determine the techniques, equipment, materials and processes to be employed for surface finish production tasks and carry out advanced surface finish analysis to determine corrective action to any sub optimum processes or product deliveries.
  • Submit paints and associate materials for sample testing and follow up with the team to ensure test results are processed correctly. Participate in technical evaluation of new products recommended by OEMs and vendors along with FTM.
  • Evaluate 3 rd party work while assessing enhanced resource requirements and capabilities for revenue generation where there is capacity within the shop protecting Emirates requirements.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Create a detailed plan to regularly audit company fleet paint and coatings conditions to ensure the company s product is viewed as top of its class.
  • Take corrective action when necessary to maintain high standards at all times and report findings to FTM and then work with them to establish corrective actions in a timely manner.

Budget:

  • Develop future budget needs for manpower, capital investment and aircraft upgradation in line with airline growth and induction of new aircraft.
  • Manage the Paint Facility budget, ensuring that all overtime/ lieu time is fully justified and kept within agreed budget levels.
  • Develop, manage and provide an oversight on resources rostering. Provide detailed justification for any proposed manpower increases identifying all benefits and alternate options.

Business:

  • Control and manage inventories, equipment, aircraft materials, including calibration of measuring equipment.
  • Produce full justification for capability improvement highlighting savings and costs on a case-by-case basis.
  • Produce a monthly report through Shift Managers detailing the activities that have taken place within each section of the Paint Hangar & Workshop. Include average TRT, number of components completed, number of components in work, details of delay or shortages, staff training, overtime & lieu hours worked, sickness levels, incidents etc.

Training:

  • Manage the team by creating development plans and setting smart objectives to ensure delivery of service level agreements (SLA) and objectives of the department.
  • Build TNAs to encompass the training needs of the department.
  • Ensure all staff are trained and qualified to carry out their duties to OEM and/or ATA level 104 standard and have training plans in place with timescales for the relevant qualification to be gained.

Safety:

  • Conduct monthly audits to highlight safety and quality issues, producing audit reports with action plans.
  • Apply and maintain production control and quality assurance techniques and liaise with the compliance monitoring department on scheduled audit requirements.
  • Implement and maintain fire, health and safety precautions ensuring fire and first aid wardens are available within the workplace.
  • Manage the local storage of materials applicable to the section in compliance with all current regulations and Airport safety regulations.
Qualification

To be considered for this role you must meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor s degree in Engineering or Chemistry, or a relevant Apprenticeship in painting/surface treatment.
  • 10+ years of experience in Engineering surface treatment/paint.
  • Experience in commercial aircraft painting, with a minimum of 3 years managerial experience.
  • Professional knowledge of the science and technology of surface technology application, aircraft paints and their application/ removal, detailed knowledge of decal installation, removal and storage/ use/ disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing standards used for surface applications.
  • Knowledge of Environmental Management Systems EN 14001 would be an advantage.
