Roles & Responsibilities
Job Title:
Laboratory Manager
Division:
Material Testing
I‐Function:
‐ Overall technical and commercial responsibility for the Laboratory operation.
‐ Oversee the operation of the Laboratory and develop its business.
‐ Maintain and further the company image in the country of operation in line with the Quality policy and
achieve the company strategic technical and commercial objectives in this country.
‐ Ensure efficient, effective and profitable commercial operations of all the departments in the Laboratory
within a framework of team work, safety, quality and maintenance of integrity and good spirit.
II‐ Reporting:
‐ To the General Manager (or Deputy General Manager).
III‐ Supervising:
‐ Heads of Divisions and Departments in the Laboratory.
‐ Branch Supervisors.
‐ Senior Procurement and Personnel Officer.
‐ Data Encoders.
‐ All related personnel.
IV‐ Duties and Responsibilities:
‐ Overall Marketing, Commercial and Technical responsibility of the Laboratory.
‐ Oversees tidy office and laboratories environment.
‐ Oversees the maintenance of all Laboratory equipment, training apparatus, documents, books, manuals and
inventory allocations.
‐ Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet schedules and deadlines.
‐ Oversees and controls time and testing records.
‐ Sets in coordination with the GM the yearly objectives for the Laboratory and ensures the achievement of
these objectives.
‐ Prepares yearly budgets and ensures the achievement of the budgets as approved by the GM or DGM.
‐ Performs close cost control on the Laboratory operation at all levels.
‐ Assists in recruitment and approves the enrollment of new recruits.
‐ Evaluates and assists in the procurement of equipment and other purchases as needed in the laboratory.
‐ Analyzes and resolves, or assists workers in solving work problems and provides moral assistance and
support for their personal problems.
‐ Signs laboratory technical reports.
‐ Writes and reviews technical reports issued by the laboratory.
‐ Prepares tenders, quotations and estimates for laboratory works and reviews and approves quotations
issued by other departments in the Laboratory.
‐ Maintains and keeps updated technical references, relevant codes and standards.
‐ Maintains technical standards, keeps aware of technical development and where appropriate, maintains
contact with various local technical committees and bodies.
‐ Handles customer complaints as reported by the Quality Division and sets‐up curative, corrective and
preventive actions.
‐ Represents the Laboratory at technical and commercial meetings including liaison with clients or technical
groups.
‐ Oversees the direction of samples when required to the approved subcontractors.
Laboratory Manager

‐ Coordinates and schedules with the Training and Consultancy Division the internal training requirements of
staff and recommends to Management external training of staff.
‐ Ensures the proper set‐up of the laboratory to host theoretical and performance training sessions for ACI
Certification or similar training events and assists the trainers when required.
‐ Conducts research to develop custom tests and investigates complaints on existing tests or services.
‐ Prepares weekly summary report of the overall operation of the central and site laboratories and hands it
over to the GM or DGM (to enclose the weekly summary reports of the heads of Department).
‐ Ensures that daily, weekly and monthly checklists are timely filled by heads of Departments and that all
items mentioned in these checklists are fulfilled.
‐ Recommends measures to improve testing procedures and use of equipment.
‐ Confers with Management, scientists or engineers to conduct analyses, interpret test results, or develop
nonstandard tests.
VI‐ Qualification:
Education and Experience:
Master’s Degree in Engineering or Chemistry, or a Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Engineering or a related field with a
considerable experience in managing laboratories (minimum 7 years); or Any equivalent combination of
experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Language Ability : (Arabic, English)

Skills:
‐ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships by developing a high level of credibility and
trust with applicants, employees, officials, and the general public.
‐ Demonstrated ability to interact as a leader in a team‐building environment with a wide variety of
individuals from diverse disciplines, cultures and experience.
‐ High levels of resourcefulness, influence, execution skills (strategy through implementation).
‐ Ability to build and lead an effective team and foster a sense of collaboration to achieve goals.
‐ Excellent time management skills which includes the ability to balance multiple projects concurrently (with
different deadlines) and marshal the resources necessary to accomplish them.
‐ Conversant with ISO 9001, ISO 17025 and HSE systems.
‐ Experience in financial control of service laboratory.
Computer Skills:
Internet software, E‐mail, MS office, Inventory and database software.
