Roles & Responsibilities

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Sourcing & Purchasing
    • Receive and review purchase requisitions for completeness and accuracy.
    • Identify and evaluate potential suppliers.
    • Issue RFQs/RFPs and analyze supplier quotations.
    • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules, and contract conditions.
    • Prepare and issue purchase orders in ERP system.
  • Supplier Management
    • Maintain strong working relationships with approved vendors.
    • Evaluate supplier performance (cost, quality, delivery).
    • Support vendor registration and qualification processes.
    • Resolve supplier-related issues (delays, shortages, quality concerns).
  • Cost Control & Commercial Review
    • Ensure purchases align with approved budgets.
    • Achieve cost savings through negotiation and alternative sourcing.
    • Compare quotations using commercial bid analysis.
    • Identify opportunities for long-term agreements or bulk purchasing.
  • Coordination & Communication
    • Coordinate with engineering, planning, warehouse, and finance departments.
    • Follow up with expeditors/logistics to ensure on-time delivery.
    • Communicate order status and resolve procurement-related concerns.
  • Compliance & Documentation
    • Ensure compliance with company procurement policies.
    • Maintain proper documentation of RFQs, bids, and purchase orders.
    • Support internal and external audits when required.

Desired Candidate Profile

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree in engineering or an equivalent qualification

Minimum Experience:

  • 6 years experience in procurement and contracts (out of which 3 years should be in Drydock)
  • Experience in the ship building/repair or related industry

Job-Specific Knowledge & Skills:

  • Understanding of sourcing strategies, supplier evaluation, contract terms, and procurement processes
  • Knowledge of international import, export and customs rules and regulations
  • Ability to negotiate pricing, payment & delivery terms, and delivery schedules effectively
  • Ability to analyze quotations, compare bids, and make data-driven recommendations
  • Strong understanding of shipbuilding systems (hull, piping, machinery, electrical, outfitting)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and datasheets
  • Knowledge of marine equipment, OEMs, and class requirements (ABS, DNV, LR, BV, etc.)
  • Familiarity with BOMs, material take offs, and engineering revisions
  • Customer service orientation and relationship management
  • Supervisory and teamwork skills
