Job Description

JOB PURPOSE
The Material Handler is responsible for receiving, storing, organizing, and distributing materials and components within the warehouse or plant, ensuring the smooth and efficient movement of materials according to operational requirements. They also contribute to maintaining order and compliance with safety standards in all material-related activities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Receiving Materials: Receiving materials and products from suppliers or other departments and verifying that quantities and quality match purchase orders or receiving invoices.
• Storing Materials: Organizing and storing materials in their designated areas in an orderly and secure manner, in compliance with safety and health standards.
• Material Inspection: Performing visual inspections of materials to ensure there are no damages or defects, and confirming they meet specifications.
• Material Distribution: Transporting materials within the facility or warehouse based on orders or the needs of different departments (e.g., production or maintenance).
• Inventory Management: Monitoring inventory levels and reporting any shortages or excesses. Assisting in periodic stocktaking and ensuring the accuracy of records.
• Ensuring Safety: Ensuring that all operations adhere to safety standards while handling materials, including hazardous or heavy materials.
• Documentation: Recording and entering data related to material movement in the electronic or paper-based system to ensure accurate tracking.
• Compliance with Operational Procedures: Adhering to warehouse operating procedures, including instructions related to loading, unloading, and distribution.
• Collaboration with Other Teams: Coordinating with logistics, production, and maintenance teams to ensure timely delivery of required materials.
• Contributing to Process Improvement: Providing suggestions for improving logistical processes and material storage within the facility.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
Academic and professional qualifications:

• High school diploma is required as a minimum; a diploma in logistics or inventory management is considered an added advantage.
• HAZMAT
• OSHA or NEBOSH Safety Certification

Experience:

• At least one year of experience in warehouse operations or handling materials, preferably in the electrical industry or other industrial sectors.

Skills & Knowledge

• Knowledge of basic material storage principles and the use of inventory management programs such as ERP or Excel.
• Ability to effectively organize and arrange materials, ensuring that they are available at the right time and place.
• Skills in handling materials and dealing with challenges in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
• Good communication skills with other teams to ensure the timely provision and receipt of materials.
• Full awareness of safety standards when handling materials and heavy equipment.
