Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Planning and delivering up to 20 hours of maths tuition per week to students on the Undergraduate Foundation Programme;
- Working with the Maths Coordinator to create and mark assessments;
- Moderating Maths and potentially Physical Science exams as and when required;
- Providing maths support, as required, to students on the first year of their undergraduate/bachelor study;
- Providing remedial maths support to students requiring extra maths assistance;
- Providing academic advising sessions;
- Administrative duties relating to teaching (assessment, standardisation, moderation, lesson preparation, report writing, attendance of regular course and general meetings).
- Representing the University at student recruitment events as and when required;
- Taking part in OAAA and affiliated university quality assurance compliance;
- Being an effective ambassador for the University locally, regionally and internationally among government entities, academics, parents, and students;
- Taking part in student activities as and when required;
- Effective liaison with Muscat University Senior Management, the Director of General Foundation Programmes, other members of the team, and academic staff;
- Any other reasonable duties appropriate to the pos
Desired Candidate Profile
A minimum of a BSc in maths or a closely related field, a teaching qualification + two years relevant teaching experience
- A minimum of two years experience of higher education Maths teaching;
- Confidence in analysing student work and providing constructive and explicit feedback;
- Able to work in a team and individually to teach and assess to agreed criteria;
- Able to work under pressure and meet administrative/marking deadlines;
- Good oral and written presentation skills;
- A good understanding or IT and its application to teaching e.g. the use of a VLE such as Moodle or Blackboard;
- English as a first language, or equivalent English language competence. A minimum of IELTS 6.0 is required to teach on foundation programmes in Oman;
- Experience of teaching students from the Middle East;
- A strong belief in and commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Muscat University.
