Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
- Planning and delivering up to 20 hours of maths tuition per week to students on the Undergraduate Foundation Programme
- Working with the Maths Coordinator to create and mark assessments
- Moderating Maths and potentially Physical Science exams as and when required
- Providing maths support, as required, to students on the first year of their undergraduate/bachelor study
- Providing remedial maths support to students requiring extra maths assistance
- Providing academic advising sessions
- Taking part in student activities as and when required
- Effective liaison with Muscat University Senior Management, the Director of General Foundation Programmes, other members of the team, and academic staff
- Any other reasonable duties appropriate to the post.
- Bachelor Degree in Math or a related field
- A teaching qualification
- Two years of teaching experience
- Omani National
- Good oral and written presentation skills
- Good understanding or IT and its application to teaching e.g. the use of a VLE such as Moodle or Blackboard
- A minimum of IELTS 6.0
- Experience of teaching students from the Middle East
- Confidence in analyzing student work and providing constructive and explicit feedback
- Able to work under pressure and meet administrative/marking deadlines
- Able to work in a team and individually to teach and assess to agreed criteria
Desired Candidate Profile
The Part-time Math lecturer shall report to the Director of General Foundation Programmes who has overall leadership of the University General Foundation Programmes. Math tutors will also work with the Math Coordinator and other Math tutors to deliver the curriculum, create, deliver and mark assessments./p>
Math Tutors teach pre-university/foundation-level Maths to students on Muscat University s Foundation Programme. They are responsible for planning and delivering interesting, useful and engaging Maths lessons to students on the Foundation Programme.
Math Tutors support Muscat University s vision by ensuring that students have an appropriate knowledge of Maths to enable them to achieve success once they progress onto their chosen degree programme. Working closely with the Director of General Foundation Programme, and other tutors on the Programme, maths tutors will be expected to teach up to 20 hours (1 hour = 45 minutes) of Maths classes per week. Tutors will also be required to create assessments and mark to given deadlines.
These main responsibilities will be undertaken in close collaboration with the Director of General Foundation Programme, the Maths Coordinator and other Maths and Physical Sciences Tutors.
