Roles & Responsibilities

1. Job Summary


The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for end-to-end design, engineering, documentation, and technical support for mechanical building services (HVAC, Plumbing, Firefighting & related systems). The role involves producing high-quality designs, engineering calculations, technical drawings, BOQs, and coordinated models, ensuring compliance with project requirements, industry standards, and client specifications.


2. Key Responsibilities


A. Mechanical Services Design


Prepare complete mechanical building services designs (HVAC, Plumbing & Drainage, Firefighting, LPG systems, etc.).


Perform engineering calculations (cooling load, pump head, ventilation requirements, duct sizing, ESP, pipe sizing, etc.).


Develop schematics, single-line diagrams, and system layouts.


Conduct material selection and prepare detailed mechanical equipment schedules.


B. Drawings, Modeling & Documentation


Produce detailed technical drawings using AutoCAD and/or Revit.


Create 2D/3D coordinated models with other disciplines (Electrical, Architectural, Structural, BMS).


Prepare technical specification documents, design reports, method statements, and compliance checklists.


Generate BOQs, cost engineering inputs, and support QS during tender preparations.


C. Project Coordination & Review


Attend design coordination meetings and interface with clients, consultants, and contractors.


Review vendor/shop drawings and ensure compliance with design intent.


Resolve technical issues during construction and provide site support when required.


Conduct value-engineering to optimize system efficiency and cost.


D. Standards, Compliance & Quality


Ensure all designs meet relevant standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA, IPC, ISO, local building codes).


Support quality assurance and maintain document control in line with company standards.


Conduct risk analysis, design validation, and performance simulations as needed.


3. Skills & Competencies


Strong knowledge of mechanical building services: HVAC, plumbing, firefighting, fuel systems, etc.


Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit (BIM), HAP, Elite, PipeNet, or similar software.


Strong analytical, numerical, and technical calculation abilities.


Excellent report writing, communication, and coordination skills.


Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimum supervision.


Experience working in MEP contracting/consulting environment is essential.



4. Qualifications


Bachelor s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.Eng/B.Tech).


Minimum 5 10 years proven experience in Mechanical Building Services Design.


Previous experience in MEP Consultancy/Contracting for high-rise, industrial, residential, and commercial projects.


5. Key Deliverables


Complete mechanical design package (drawings, layouts, calculations, BOQ).


Design report, equipment schedules, technical specifications.


Coordinated MEP drawings/models.


Technical support and compliance documentation for project execution.
