Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
JOB PURPOSE:
The Mechanical Marine Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems and equipment onboard Tug Boats and other marine vessels, ensuring smooth and efficient marine operations. The role requires advanced knowledge of marine mechanical and automation systems, proficiency in using precision measuring tools, and the ability to diagnose faults, solve problems, and make sound technical decisions to ensure vessel readiness at all times.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on mechanical systems aboard tugboats and other vessels using hand tools and measuring instruments.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of marine mechanical equipment including engines, cooling systems, fuel systems, and hydraulic pumps.
- Prepare detailed maintenance and repair reports and submit them to the supervisor or line manager.
- Attend daily toolbox meetings and carry out scheduled preventive maintenance and emergency repairs on vessels.
- Coordinate effectively with team members and other departments (operations, harbor & marine) to accomplish maintenance and operational goals.
- Interpret and explain technical data to colleagues when required.
- Service, repair, test, and calibrate marine machinery and mechanical systems with moving and rotating components.
- Apply logical and analytical thinking to identify the root causes of technical issues and implement optimal solutions.
- Perform any other tasks assigned by the supervisor or line manager to support efficient marine operations.
- Maintain a high level of accuracy and performance under pressure.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Responsibilities:
- Fully comply with the company’s HSE policies and procedures.
- Contribute to achieving HSE KPIs and maintain a safe working environment onboard vessels and in workshops.
- Ensure implementation of HSE audit recommendations, particularly those related to marine operations and asset protection.
- Report all incidents, near misses, and violations to the immediate supervisor or through the approved reporting system.
- Attend all mandatory HSE training sessions and promote a positive safety culture in the workplace.
Desired Candidate Profile
Qualifications
Diploma in Mechanical or Marine Engineering or a related field.
Experience
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in maintenance of Tug Boats, marine vessels, or heavy industrial equipment.
Knowledge/ Skills
- Strong understanding of marine mechanical systems and proficiency in using hand tools and measuring devices.
- Good command of English (reading and writing); Arabic is an added advantage.
- Teamwork, collaboration, and communication skills.
- Problem-solving and accurate technical decision-making.
- Self-confidence, discipline, and a supportive attitude toward colleagues.
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure with high accuracy and quality.
