Roles & Responsibilities

This role involves assessing the health and risk profile of groups, determining premiums, setting plan terms, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The underwriter will work closely with employers, brokers, and other internal teams to create cost-effective and comprehensive medical insurance plans that meet the needs of the group while managing risk for the company.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Analyze the health risk of groups applying for medical insurance coverage by reviewing employee demographics (age, gender, industry), medical history, and historical claims data.
  • Use underwriting tools and actuarial data to assess group risk and set appropriate premium rates.
  • Evaluate group health trends, including common illnesses or conditions that may affect claims frequency and severity.
  • Work with clients to design medical insurance plans that meet the needs of the group while ensuring they are cost-effective.
  • Maintain accurate records of underwriting decisions, premium calculations, and correspondence with clients and brokers.

Qualifications & Skills :

- Bachelor’s degree or a related field.

- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in medical underwriting, health insurance, or a related field.

- Experience in group medical underwriting or working with employer-sponsored health plans is highly preferred.

- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess risk using medical and claims data.

- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex underwriting decisions to clients, brokers, and internal teams.
