Job Details
- Location: Counties Manukau – Mental Health & Addictions (Community)
- Contract Type: Full-time, permanent
- Reports To: Clinical Charge Nurse / Team Manager
- Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments, utilizing specialized tools to evaluate patients' needs and determine appropriate treatment plans.
- Administer medications and monitor their effects, ensuring patient safety and educating them about their prescribed regimens.
- Provide individual and group therapy sessions, employing therapeutic techniques to facilitate patient recovery and promote coping mechanisms.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to address each patient's unique challenges.
- Manage and de-escalate crisis situations, employing effective communication and intervention strategies to ensure patient and staff safety.
- Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions, treatment options, and available community resources.
- Document patient progress and maintain accurate medical records, adhering to ethical and legal standards of practice.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to provide holistic and integrated patient care.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, contributing to the ongoing enhancement of mental health services.
- Advocate for patients' rights and well-being, ensuring they receive compassionate and respectful care within the healthcare system.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Possesses a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license, demonstrating a foundation of nursing knowledge and skills.
- Holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, showcasing a commitment to advanced nursing education.
- Has a minimum of 2 years of experience in a mental health or addiction treatment setting, indicating practical expertise in the field.
- Demonstrates experience with various therapeutic modalities, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).
- Has a strong understanding of psychopharmacology, enabling safe and effective medication management.
- Exhibits excellent communication and interpersonal skills, effectively building rapport with patients and families.
- Displays proficiency in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques, ensuring patient and staff safety during critical situations.
- Is CPR and BLS certified, indicating readiness to respond to medical emergencies.
- Demonstrates empathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental attitude, creating a supportive environment for patients.
- Possesses strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, effectively assessing and addressing patient needs.
