Roles & Responsibilities

Purpose

As part of the Restoring Family links program in Egypt, and in the framework of the Accompaniment Program established in response to the diverse needs identified among families of missing persons, the Psychologist 2 develops, implements, and follows up on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) activities targeting families of individuals who went missing in the context of armed conflict or other situations of violence in their countries of origin and who have since sought safety in Egypt. The Psychologist 2 also contributes to regular updates on the MHPSS needs of this target population and supports strengthening the capacities of the partner organization.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of Protection of Family Links coordinator based in Cairo2:

  • Contributes to the implementation of the MHPSS component of the multidisciplinary response to the needs of the families of missing within the Accompaniment Program (AP) with national society and partner organization
  • Plans and organizes activities adapted to the needs of the families of missing persons according to the guidelines established by the MHPSS team.
  • Support the national society and partner organization to provide support to the families of missing persons and separated families.
  • When relevant, organizes awareness raising sessions on the needs of the families of missing persons, targeting local or international organizations.
  • Conducts external referrals of specific cases (collected through the activities implemented within the AP), in line with the internal criteria and identifies service providers whenever relevant.
  • Contributes to the organization of special events/activities/conferences and trainings for various audiences.
  • With the other members of the team, participates in the organization and provision of trainings of accompaniers on numerous topics, - such as listening and communication skills, group facilitation, planning of activities etc., - and ensures regular coaching, mentoring and technical support to the accompaniers in the implementation of the program in the assigned regions.
  • Makes written reporting on the activities.
  • Develops and maintains contact with partners and interlocutors.
  • Provides the technical support to other departments, when necessary.
  • Creates and maintains direct links with the MHPSS programs beneficiaries (when needed).

Certifications/Education Required

  • Master s degree in clinical psychology with a license to practice in Egypt.
  • Excellent knowledge of Arabic and English languages, both written and spoken, is mandatory.
  • Good computer skills (Word, Excel, Web browsers etc...).

Professional Experience Required

  • At least five years of professional experience with minimum three years of work experience in MHPSS programs in Egypt that includes working with vulnerable groups.
  • Humanitarian organization experience with families of missing persons is an asset.
  • Good knowledge and experience in group facilitation techniques.
  • Good knowledge about evaluation methods.
  • Training skills is an asset.
  • Good knowledge of the social, cultural, political, security environment in the country and regional context.
  • Good reporting, active listening, communication and soft skills.
  • Good analytical skills and attention to details.
  • Red Cross/Red Crescent experience is an asset.
