Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor s degree in Physics or a closely related field (Master s degree is an advantage).
Recognised teaching qualification (QTS, PGCE, or equivalent) and proven competence in delivering the British curriculum.
Minimum of 2 years successful Physics teaching experience in an international school setting, with demonstrable impact on student progress and attainment.
Previous leadership experience (Head of Department, subject coordinator, or team lead) with the capacity to mentor staff, oversee curriculum delivery, and drive departmental improvement.
Strong knowledge of the UK National Curriculum and current evidence-based approaches to teaching, learning, assessment, and student achievement in Physics.
Demonstrated ability to deliver engaging, student-centred lessons that promote inquiry, scientific thinking, and independent learning.
Effective classroom management and behaviour expectations that support a respectful, purposeful learning environment.
Proven ability to analyse assessment data, set departmental targets, and lead improvement planning aligned with whole-school goals.
Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across a diverse and high-performing team.
Commitment to modelling and reinforcing EBIS values while supporting students academic, social, and emotional development.
Key Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership for the Physics department at Middle School level, ensuring high academic standards, curriculum consistency, and alignment with EBIS values and British-curriculum expectations.
Plan, deliver, and evaluate high-quality Physics lessons that are engaging, differentiated, and aligned with National Curriculum objectives and international benchmarks.
Lead departmental curriculum design, including long- and medium-term planning, schemes of work, assessment frameworks, and resource allocation.
Coach, mentor, and support Physics teachers, modelling effective instructional practice, classroom management, and assessment approaches.
Monitor student progress through data analysis, standardised assessments, and moderation, and implement strategies to raise attainment and close learning gaps.
Ensure accurate and timely assessment, reporting, and record-keeping in line with school policies and safeguarding requirements.
Collaborate closely with senior leadership on departmental development priorities, reporting, accreditation requirements, and curriculum improvement initiatives.
Maintain a safe, inclusive, and well-organised learning environment that supports inquiry, independence, and scientific thinking.
Communicate effectively with parents/guardians to support academic progress, behaviour expectations, and student wellbeing.
Promote inclusive and adaptive teaching practices, effectively supporting students with a range of learning needs.
Model and reinforce EBIS values daily, supporting students social-emotional development and contributing to a positive learning culture.
Participate actively in weekly professional development sessions and contribute to staff training and departmental capacity building.
Contribute to co-curricular and enrichment opportunities linked to STEM, science fairs, competitions, or other relevant programmes.
Attend scheduled meetings, school events, moderation cycles, and parent conferences as part of departmental and whole-school responsibilities.
