Roles & Responsibilities

Our client, a respected organization in the Oil and Gas sector, is looking for a dedicated Mining Engineer to play a pivotal role in quarry operations. This challenging and rewarding position offers the opportunity for professional growth while contributing to a high-performing team.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for the planning, design, and safe execution of all extraction activities at the quarry. This role owns the "front end" of the operation-from face design and blast planning to slope stability and regulatory compliance-ensuring a consistent, quality feed of raw material to the production plant technical oversight, and quality assurance.

Quarry Planning & Design

Develop short-, medium-, and long-term quarry development plans and excavation sequences.

Design bench layouts, haul roads, ramps, and dump areas to optimize safety and material flow.

Create and maintain digital mine models and topographic surveys (using CAD/survey software).

Drill & Blast Coordination & Contractor Management

Act as the primary technical liaison and coordinator with the 3rd-party drilling and blasting contractor.

Develop blast specifications, target fragmentation profiles, and drilling patterns; issue clear technical instructions to the contractor.

Supervise contractor activities on-site to ensure compliance with approved blast designs, safety protocols, and schedule requirements.

Monitor blast performance (fragmentation, vibration, flyrock, oversize) and provide feedback to the contractor for continuous improvement.

Verify contractor invoices against completed work (drilled meters, blasted volumes, consumables used).

Safety, Health & Compliance

Conduct geotechnical assessments, slope stability monitoring, and highwall inspections.

Ensure compliance with MOI safety regulations.

Lead incident investigations related to extraction activities and implement corrective actions.

Enforce site-specific safety standards for all contractor personnel working in the pit. Environmental & Water Management.

Cross-Functional Coordination

Liaise daily with the Production Engineer to align extraction rates with plant throughput and crusher schedules.

Support capital projects, permitting, and land acquisition efforts as needed.

Desired Candidate Profile

Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, or related field.

3-5 years of experience in open-pit mining or aggregate quarrying, with exposure to contractor-managed drill-and-blast operations.

Proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil 3D.

Strong knowledge of blast design principles, geotechnical fundamentals, and mine safety regulations.
