Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Assess property appraisals, ensuring they meet regulatory standards and accurately reflect market value, mitigating potential risks.
  • Analyze loan applications, meticulously evaluating credit reports, income verification, and asset documentation to assess borrower's ability to repay.
  • Evaluate loan files for compliance with federal, state, and investor guidelines, minimizing legal and financial liabilities.
  • Communicate effectively with loan officers, processors, and closing agents to gather necessary information and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Make informed loan decisions based on sound judgment and adherence to established underwriting guidelines, ensuring loan quality.
  • Review and interpret complex financial statements, tax returns, and other financial documents to determine borrower's creditworthiness.
  • Stay updated on industry changes, regulatory updates, and investor requirements, proactively adapting underwriting practices.
  • Prepare detailed loan summaries and recommendations, clearly articulating findings and rationale for loan approvals or denials.
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail throughout the underwriting process, ensuring data integrity and compliance.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with each loan, such as fraud, misrepresentation, and financial instability.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills, enabling in-depth evaluation of financial data and identification of potential risks.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, facilitating clear and effective interaction with stakeholders.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, ensuring compliance with all applicable guidelines and regulations.
  • Proficiency in automated underwriting systems (AUS) such as DU or LP, streamlining loan processing and decision-making.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in mortgage underwriting, demonstrating a solid understanding of lending practices and regulations.
