The Network Operation and Protection Principal Engineer is a key role responsible for ensuring the secure, reliable, and compliant operation of the Omani power network, with a focus on real-time control and system integrity. This role oversees the development and implementation of operational procedures, security policies, and advanced protection schemes that govern the day-to-day activities of LDC. Key responsibilities include strategic planning for contingency scenarios, analyzing system vulnerability and performance, and leading initiatives to optimize system defense mechanisms, particularly in response to high renewable penetration and evolving grid complexity, thereby ensuring the long-term reliability and safe operation of the transmission system.

Description:

• Oversee the development and maintenance of operational procedures and guidelines governing all real-time control and dispatch activities within the Load Dispatch Center (LDC).
• Lead the creation of strategic contingency plans and operating security limits to ensure the system remains reliable under various fault and extreme event scenarios.
• Direct the operational security analysis function, including pre- and post-contingency assessments, to ensure continuous compliance with mandatory grid code and standards.
• Analyze system performance data and operational incidents to identify and mitigate network vulnerabilities, enhancing overall grid resilience against operational failures and cyber threats.
• Develop strategies to manage the operational challenges posed by high-RES penetration, ensuring that system protection and stability are maintained.
• Provide expert technical consultation on the operational impact of new transmission projects, asset modifications, and the integration of new technologies.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to the LDC's operational planning teams, fostering a culture of excellence, security awareness, and continuous improvement.
• Serve as the senior technical expert for operational security and protection matters during internal and external regulatory audits.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent qualification

Professional Experience:

• Minimum of 7 years experience in large, interconnected power system operations in relevant field.
