This role is critical for ensuring the reliable, secure, and sustainable operation of the power grid by overseeing continuous network performance monitoring and analysis using advanced tools like SCADA, EMS, and WAMS, along with sophisticated algorithms and predictive analytics. Key responsibilities include proactively identifying and mitigating potential grid vulnerabilities, such as cascading failures and voltage issues, conducting root cause analysis for disturbances, providing essential data-driven insights and recommendations for long-term grid planning, transmission expansion, and technology integration. Furthermore, the position involves developing and maintaining comprehensive grid performance databases, generating insightful reports with KPIs and trend analysis, and leading and mentoring a team of analysts to foster continuous learning and professional development.

Description

  • Evaluate Network Performance by conducting detailed analyses against international best practices and utility benchmarks (e.g., NERC, CIGRE) to assess the current state of the Omani power grid.
  • Develop and Recommend Improvement Methods tailored to OETC's specific requirements to enhance overall grid reliability, efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and clear targets for the network performance section, regularly monitoring and reporting on their achievement to drive continuous operational excellence.
  • Issue Comprehensive Reports on network performance analysis, evaluation activities, and compliance obligations as mandated by OETC's internal requirements and external regulatory bodies.
  • Develop, Document, and Maintain robust Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), policies, and internal guidelines relevant to all network monitoring, analysis, and performance evaluation activities.
  • Ensure Audit Compliance by efficiently addressing and closing all audit observations and non-conformities related to the network performance section in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate Data Exchange and Analysis with key departments, including Asset Management & Planning (AMP) and Transmission & Projects, to ensure the reliable collection, validation, and utilization of network data for planning and performance evaluation purposes.
  • Provide Technical Input to the planning processes of other departments, contributing performance data and expert recommendations to transmission expansion and project development initiatives.
  • Lead and Mentor the network performance analysis team, setting clear expectations and KPI targets for individual and team performance.
  • Design and Deliver Training Programs to build the technical capacity of other engineers within the department and OETC on advanced network analysis methods, performance evaluation techniques, and the use of specialized tools.
  • Assist in the Preparation of Budget Proposals for the Load Dispatch Center (LDC), providing necessary data and justification for technology upgrades, training, and operational needs related to network performance monitoring.
