Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
Care Ward B (CWB) provides acute care to pediatric hematology and oncology patients from one month to 13 years of age.
The Unit consists of four negative air pressure rooms for isolation and sixteen positive air pressure rooms.
This child-friendly unit is located on the second level of the new expansion area of the King Fahad Centre for Children s Cancer (affectionately known as CCC). The majority of the children admitted to the center are infants, toddlers and of pre-school age, although patients are admitted up to age of 14. On rare occasions adolescents are admitted if the patient is still under the care of the pediatric hematology/oncology physician.
A sitter or parent is encouraged to stay with the patient to promote family centered care.
No. of Beds: 20
- Medication administration including chemotherapy administration and management
- Central venous lines (Infuseport, Hickman line, temporary CVC line and PICC line) and peripheral intravenous line management
- Supportive treatments such as administration of antibiotic, IV fluids and other medication
- Nutritional support like TPN, enteral feeding, weight monitoring and dietary instruction
- Prepare patient for procedures including bone marrow aspiration with biopsy, lumbar puncture, CT Scan, echocardiography, MRI, PET scan, MIBG, And intrathecal (IT)
- Patient assessment and evaluation including narcotic infusion (with exclusion of PCA)
- Provides care for patients undergoing procedure under conscious sedation
- Hemodynamic monitoring
- Oxygen therapy and pulse oximetry
- Provides emotional and psychological support
- Provides care to post radiation therapy patients
- Infectious disease management and follows isolation policies
- Starts the pre BMT work up
- Provides patient and family education
- RRT/ Code Blue Team coverage
- Mucositis assessment and management
- Management of myelo-suppression
- Meta-Iodo-Benzyl-Guanidine (MIBG)
- Pre and post-operative care
- Point of Care Testing Glucose and urinalysis
- Tracheostomy care

- Acute lymphoblastic leukemia
- Acute myelogenous leukemia
- Aplastic anemia
- Sickle cell anemia
- Langerhan s cell histiocytosis
- Non-Hodgkin s lymphoma
- Hodgkin s lymphoma
- Burkitt s lymphoma
- Hematologic disorders
Desired Candidate Profile
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
Current registration as a professional registered nurse.
Eligible for registration with Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.
Minimum of two (2) years of current clinical nursing experience following licensure/registration in the country of origin.
