Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Dispensing prescription medicines and over the counter to the public in strict adherence to the guidelines laid

down by the Ministry of Health.

Advising patients of any side effects of medicines or potential interactions with other medicines /treatments.

Check patients prescription legality for accuracy, safety (eg. ensuring no drugs are contraindicated with one

another, reviewing labels, doses) and insurance related issues.

Follow up for insurance approval as appropriate and feedback to the patient.

Put a Tick mark ( ) on the prescription for those supplied. Validate the prescription/bill by sign, stamp after

dispensing (as per norms). Counseling and advising the patients/public about the medications prescribed/billed.

Liaising with doctors about prescriptions in case of any discrepancy in the prescription.

Pricing of loose strips and safe handling of cash in appropriate manner.

Ensuring that narcotics and other controlled drugs are kept under strict supervision, with controlled access.

Managing stock and dispensing controlled drugs in strict compliance with MOH policy.

Raising indent/requisition/LPO, handling receipts of new consignment, GRN entry, maintaining stock and

inventory of medicines/pharmaceutical care items. Stock arranging on shelves, refilling, checking of expiry dates

and updating the list for necessary follow up action.

Ensure compliance with billing system as well as auditing/tracking system as per organization s protocol, stock

availability and tally as per the records.

Issuance of Indents to patients care units and corporate requisitions in appropriate way.

Compliance with shift duty as per the contract.

Report ADR and/or quality problem in liaison with HOD-Pharmacy.

Ensure proper storage of medications and other pharmaceutical care items, maintaining temperature record chart

for pharmacy as well as refrigerator.

Monitoring of Expiry dates (ensure FEFO), and sort out slow moving /Non-moving / short expiry inventories for

necessary action to avoid wastage of resources.

Initiatives for ensuring availability of vital as well as essential medicines and other pharmaceutical care items in

view of the patients/clinical needs.

Periodical check of CPR Trolleys as per the checklist approved by the HOD.

Preparing statistics/reports and business quotations as assigned by the HOD.

Ensure clear communication among the team regarding work related issues in appropriate manner, preferably on

record.
