Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

1. Clinical Eye Care

Examine and diagnose eye disorders and vision problems

Treat conditions such as cataract, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and refractive errors

Prescribe medications, spectacles, and contact lenses

Manage eye infections, allergies, and inflammatory conditions

2. Surgical Responsibilities

Perform eye surgeries including:

Cataract surgery (phacoemulsification)

Glaucoma surgeries

Retinal surgeries (if specialized)

Squint (strabismus) correction

Oculoplastic procedures (eyelid, tear duct surgeries)

Provide pre-operative and post-operative patient care

3. Diagnostic Procedures

Conduct and interpret eye investigations such as:

Fundoscopy and slit-lamp examination

Tonometry (IOP measurement)

Visual field testing

OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography)

Fluorescein angiography (if trained)

4. Preventive Eye Care

Screen for vision problems, especially in diabetics, children, and the elderly

Conduct school eye screening and community eye camps

Provide counseling on eye hygiene, screen-time care, and injury prevention

5. Emergency Eye Care

Manage ocular emergencies such as eye injuries, foreign bodies, chemical burns, and sudden vision loss

Provide immediate treatment or surgical intervention when required

6. Patient Counseling & Education

Educate patients on eye disease management and prevention

Counsel patients regarding surgical procedures, risks, and outcomes

Guide patients on post-surgical care and follow-up

7. Administrative & Professional Duties

Maintain detailed medical records and surgical documentation

Coordinate with optometrists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals

Ensure adherence to ethical, legal, and safety standards

Participate in audits, CMEs, and professional development

8. Teaching & Research (if applicable)

Train junior doctors, residents, optometrists, and nursing staff

Participate in research activities and clinical studies

Qualification: MS/MD
