Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists patients to change into patient gown. Makes patient as comfortable as possible. Assists patients to the bathroom.

Obtains vital signs, weights on all pediatric patients, and pulse oximetry and documents information on the patient record.

Places patient on cardiac monitor and/or non-invasive blood pressure monitor, if necessary.

Obtains medical record.

Notifies RN and / or Physician of patient s condition. Reports all unusual incidents to the appropriate person. Reports significant changes in patient s condition to supervising Registered Nurse and/or Charge Nurse.

Assists RN with ambulance runs in placement of patients in appropriate bed.

Ensures each patient/family is provided an orientation to the ED room, call light system, and how to access the Supervising RN or Charge Nurse, if needed.

Helps to keep patient's family/significant others informed on progress of patient, i.e. delays in care, etc., with awareness of HIPAA and patient privacy. Arranges patient s family members to visit at appropriate times.

Performs CPR during codes. Assists to ensure Crash Cart, defibrillation function have been checked per protocol and after each code; appropriate items are immediately replaced and indicated by signature on crash cart checklist.

Helps manage assaultive behavior patients.

Applies simple and complex dressings.

Performs EKG s, splinting and transports specimen to the Lab.

Assists RN in transportation of patients admitted to hospital.

Orders and stocks special supplies as needed.

Demonstrates appropriate use of personal protective equipment (i.e. gloves, masks, goggles) and hand hygiene techniques.

Avoids and prevents injury to self and patients by applying the principle of body mechanics. Maintains a safe environment.

Explains all treatment and procedures thoroughly to patient beforethey are performed.

Involves patient in care and allows patient to have choice and control over situations and environment, as appropriate to condition and situation.

Reinforces selected patient teaching with an awareness and application of safety issues identified within the unit / facility. Is proactive in identifying, reporting and participating in the resolution of any potential or actual patient safety issues initiated by Registered Nurse.

Provides emotional support to patient and families.

Assist with the training of new employees.

Attends and maintains mandatory training.

Utilizes the Patient Safety Goals in the workplace as related to job performance.

Demonstrates awareness of a safe environment for staff, patients, visitors, or any others on the unit.

Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Provide personalized coordinated care, support and treatment for patients and families.

Treat people with dignity, compassion, and respect.

Involving patients in decisions and helping them take actions to support themselves.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Certification of Paramedic

Diploma in Paramedic

SCFHS EMT registration

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE :

Preferable two years experience after graduation.

SPECIALIZED SKILLS :

Skill in providing emergency medical techniques.

Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks.

Ability to work independently.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Enthusiastic, enduring, and willing to work for extra hours

Multi-tasking, good listening skills and verbal communication.

COMPETENCE :

Good command of English and Arabic preferred.

BCLS, ACLS, PALS licensed.

Computer skill preferred.

Knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations.

With a thorough knowledge, skills and techniques of proper therapeutic drug and solutions administration.

ATTITUDE :

The ability to communicate with and gain the trust of people from a range of backgrounds.

Empathy, sensitivity and emotional flexible to be able to help people under what may be difficult circumstances.

Flexibility to deal with a variety of patients at one time.
