Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
- Dispense medications, ensuring accuracy and patient safety in ophthalmic treatments, including sterile compounding as needed.
- Provide expert consultation to ophthalmologists and patients on medication selection, dosage, administration, and potential side effects specific to eye conditions.
- Manage and maintain an inventory of ophthalmic medications, ensuring proper storage, handling, and timely ordering to prevent shortages.
- Monitor and report adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and medication errors related to ophthalmic treatments, contributing to patient safety initiatives.
- Collaborate with ophthalmology staff, including physicians and nurses, to optimize medication therapy and improve patient outcomes.
- Educate patients on proper eye drop administration techniques, contact lens care, and other relevant information to ensure medication adherence.
- Participate in clinical trials and research studies involving ophthalmic medications, contributing to the advancement of treatment options.
- Develop and implement pharmacy protocols and procedures specific to ophthalmic medications to enhance efficiency and patient safety.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Possesses a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited institution, demonstrating a strong foundation in pharmaceutical sciences.
- Holds a valid pharmacist license in good standing, allowing for legal and ethical practice within the specified jurisdiction.
- Certified in sterile compounding, showcasing proficiency in preparing ophthalmic medications in a controlled environment.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a pharmacy setting, indicating practical knowledge of dispensing and medication management.
- Demonstrates experience in ophthalmology, with a minimum of 1 year of experience focused on ophthalmic medications.
- Exhibits a strong understanding of ophthalmic drug interactions and adverse effects, showcasing specialized knowledge.
- Should be familiar with DHA regulations and NPCM
