Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The Piping Engineer will be responsible for detailed engineering, layout development, material specification, stress coordination, and construction support for piping systems in process plants.


Key Responsibilities


1. Piping Design & Engineering

  • Develop and review piping layouts, routing, and 3D models.
  • Review and interpret PFDs, P&IDs, line lists, and equipment layouts.
  • Prepare piping material specifications (PMS) and valve specifications.
  • Generate piping MTOs and support procurement activities.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (ASME, API, ASTM, ISO).

2. Stress & Flexibility Coordination

  • Coordinate with stress analysis team for:
  • Critical lines
  • High temperature services
  • Hydrogen/ammonia service
  • Ensure proper support philosophy and expansion handling.
  • Review stress reports and implement design modifications.

3. Layout & Interdisciplinary Coordination

  • Develop plot plans and equipment layouts.
  • Ensure accessibility, maintainability, and operability.
  • Coordinate interfaces with:
  • Mechanical (nozzle loads, alignment)
  • Civil/Structural (pipe racks, foundations)
  • Electrical & Instrumentation (cable routing, instrument connections)
  • Participate in 3D model reviews and clash resolution.

4. Vendor & Construction Support

  • Review vendor drawings for package tie-ins.
  • Support site queries (TQs/RFIs) during construction.
  • Assist in resolving field routing issues.
  • Participate in pre-commissioning walkdowns and punch closure.

5. Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure piping design complies with:
  • ASME B31.3 / B31.4 / B31.8 (as applicable)
  • Hydrogen service material requirements
  • Ammonia service considerations
  • Support HAZOP and constructability reviews.
  • Ensure proper line class and corrosion allowance selection.

Desired Candidate Profile

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • 810 years of experience in process industry EPC projects.
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • ASME B31.3 piping code
  • Piping materials and specifications
  • 3D modeling tools (E3D / SP3D / PDMS / AutoCAD Plant 3D)
  • Isometric extraction and checking
