Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
1. Strategic Vessel Planning Oversight
Lead and approve vessel stowage plans, ensuring optimal crane productivity and minimal delays.
Manage berth window planning and vessel scheduling in coordination with marine and commercial teams.
Maintain strong relationships with shipping lines and agents to ensure planning accuracy and service quality.
Ensure compliance with international maritime safety, stability, and port regulations.
Drive improvements in vessel turnaround time and berth productivity.
2. Yard Planning Leadership
Develop and implement yard planning strategies to optimize space utilization and reduce re-handling.
Oversee allocation of yard blocks for import, export, transshipment, and empty containers.
Ensure yard planning aligns with vessel operations, gate activities, and intermodal flows.
Monitor yard congestion trends and implement proactive mitigation strategies.
Lead initiatives to improve container dwell time and yard efficiency.
3. Terminal Operating System (TOS) Management
Oversee the effective utilization and performance of the Terminal Operating System (e.g., Navis N4 or similar).
Ensure accurate system configuration to support vessel and yard planning strategies.
Monitor data integrity, planning parameters, and system-driven workflows.
Lead troubleshooting and resolution of TOS-related operational issues.
Coordinate with IT and vendors for system enhancements, upgrades, and integrations.
Drive digitalization initiatives and automation within planning functions.
Ensure planners and operations teams are properly trained in TOS usage and best practices.
4. Operational Integration & Control
Ensure seamless coordination between planning, operations, and equipment teams.
Oversee execution of plans and intervene in real-time for operational adjustments.
Chair daily/weekly planning meetings and provide direction to planning and operations teams.
Act as escalation point for complex operational challenges.
5. Performance Management & Continuous Improvement
Define, monitor, and analyze key KPIs such as crane productivity, berth utilization, yard density, and truck turnaround time.
Identify performance gaps and implement corrective actions.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives, including process optimization and system enhancements.
Benchmark performance against industry standards and best practices.
6. Systems, Data & Compliance
Ensure high data accuracy, reporting integrity, and analytics for planning and operations.
Establish governance over planning data, system usage, and operational reporting.
Ensure full compliance with HSE policies, regulatory requirements, and company standards.
Support implementation of new technologies, tools, or automation initiatives.
7. Leadership & Team Management
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of vessel and yard planners.
Set performance objectives and conduct regular performance reviews.
Build a high-performance, collaborative planning culture.
Ensure adequate manpower planning and succession development.
Desired Candidate Profile
Job Purpose The Terminal Planning Superintendent / Assistant Manager is responsible for leading and optimizing all vessel and yard planning functions within the terminal. This role ensures strategic alignment between berth planning, vessel stowage, yard operations, and Terminal Operating System (TOS) management to achieve high productivity, efficient resource utilization, and safe operations. The position also drives performance improvements, system optimization, and planning excellence across the terminal.
