Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of all on-site and off-site plant assets, including batching plants, crushers, heavy lifting equipment, and earthmoving machinery.
- Develop, implement, and monitor a robust preventive maintenance program to maximize equipment uptime and minimize breakdowns.
- Conduct regular inspections of all machinery to ensure it is in safe working condition and compliant with project and regulatory standards.
- Manage the mobilization and demobilization of plant and equipment at the beginning and end of the project.
- Oversee the management of spare parts inventory and workshop operations.
- Track and record all owned and rented equipment, including managing rental agreements and relationships with external hire companies.
- Coordinate with the procurement and expediting teams to ensure a timely supply of necessary parts and new equipment.
- Enforce all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures for plant operations and personnel.
- Ensure all equipment operators are appropriately trained, certified, and compliant with safety legislation.
- Conduct safety audits and accident investigations related to plant activities.
- Create and manage the plant department's budget, including tracking costs for maintenance, fuel, and equipment rentals.
- Provide regular reports on equipment utilization, performance, and maintenance costs to senior management.
- Work to optimize equipment utilization to reduce project costs and increase profitability.
- Delegate tasks and responsibilities effectively to ensure all operational requirements are met.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the plant team.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in managing heavy plant and equipment for large-scale construction projects.
- Demonstrated experience in a leadership role, supervising a team of technical and operational staff.
- Strong knowledge of industry-standard plant equipment, maintenance procedures, and safety regulations.
- Proficiency in asset tracking software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and people management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to troubleshoot operational issues.
- Excellent negotiation skills for managing rental agreements and supplier contracts.
- High level of organizational skills and attention to detail for managing complex logistics and documentation.
