Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research Leadership & Fieldwork: Lead qualitative and quantitative research, supervise interviews, and oversee data collection on the ground, including travel to conflict-affected regions as necessary.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Establish and maintain relationships with local partners, oversee workshop coordination, and provide advanced Arabic-English translation and interpretation during interviews or meetings.
  • Project Outputs: Drafting scholarly articles, policy briefs, and other deliverables, while mentoring team members on research methodologies and writing.
  • Team Management & Capacity Building: Mentor junior researchers and research associates, providing guidance on best practices in fieldwork and analysis.
  • Project Coordination: Manage research timelines and workflows, ensuring deliverables meet deadlines and quality standards.
  • Administrative Oversight: Oversee the organization of meetings, events, and travel logistics; ensure compliance with funder and DI guidelines; and prepare detailed progress reports for funding agencies.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

PhD specializing in peace and conflict studies, humanitarian studies, post-war recovery, urban planning, development studies, political science, international relations or a closely related field within the social sciences.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Familiarity with international aid systems, Gulf donors, and multilateral organizations
  • Knowledge of research techniques and methodologies, including development methods such as monitoring and evaluation and/or needs assessments.
  • Published track record in relevant fields

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Fluency in English and Arabic, and the ability to conduct project activities orally and in writing in both languages.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills.
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to facilitate activities
  • Excellent time management and ability to plan and prioritize own work in order to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Good management, organization, advocacy, and communications skills.
  • Motivated and personally engaged in the subject areas of the funded project.
  • Culturally adaptable, as evidenced by time spent in diverse cultural environments, particularly in developing countries.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work.
  • Digital literacy, including office productivity tools

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join a unique and new research project funded through 2028 by the Qatar Research Development and Innovation Council (QRDI) titled Rethinking the Day After": Post-war reconstruction of the Gaza Strip" led by the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI) represented by Dr. Ghassan El Kahlout, the Lead Principal Investigator, and Dr. Sansom Milton, the Principal Investigator. The collaborating institutions are the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies and the Islamic University in Gaza. A key aim of the research project is to produce a timely and relevant study on the aftermath of the 2PHONE_NUMBER Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, focusing on the pathways to rebuild and support the territory in the 'day after.' It seeks to fill the existing knowledge gaps and provide a Palestinian-led perspective on the post-conflict recovery and reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. The successful applicant will be based at the Doha Institute. The project operates within the Research & Grants Department. The approximate start date for the appointment is June 2026, and the duration is up to 12 months. The appointment is subject to renewal after the completion of the original duration.
