Practical Nurse

1. Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient's age.

2. Provides patient s care which may include bed bath, shower, oral hygiene, combing hair, back care, dressing patients, changing bed linen, cleaning overbed table and bedside stand,straightening room and other general care as necessary throughout the shift.

3. Provides general nursing care such as positioning patients, lifting and turning patients, applying/utilizing special equipment, assisting in use of bedpan, commode and ambulating patients.

4. Takes and records vital signs, height, weight, hemogluco test, and intake-output.

5. Assists with patient admissions, discharge and transfers.

6. Helps in the transportation of patients to various departments for ordered tests/procedures.

7. Prepares patients for meals, serves and removes food trays and assists with meals or feeds patients if necessary.

8. Assists registered nurse with assessments, examinations, and treatment.

9. Assists with preparation of equipment for procedures.

10. Responds to the patient s needs in emergency or physically distressful situations.

11. Maintains and prepares rooms between patients and procedures.

12. Maintains the department s cleanliness.

13. Maintains accurate and continued nursing documentation as per current standard and policies.

14. Assists in cost containment through the appropriate conserving of supplies and equipment.

15. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement programs, safety, environmental, occupational health and safety (OHS), and infection control standards.
