Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Provides legal advice on operational, commercial, corporate and transactional matters relating to OQEP s assets, supply, trading and financing activities.

Drafts, reviews, interprets and amends various forms of legal documentation related to the business of OQEP.

Assists in relation to any litigation or claims affecting OQEP.

Supports the development of junior Omani lawyers and coordinates with other departments and functions on development and implementation of training and development initiatives.

Manages external legal counsel.

Coordinates with other key departments in OQEP such as the OQEP Corporate Governance Department and the OQEP compliance department.

Coordinates with other legal departments within OQEP.

Performs other similar duties as assigned by the OQEP VP Legal.

Manage resource-based across multiple jurisdictions and ensure high quality advice and experience resources to deliver that advice.

Work with VP Legal and team on most critical business matters that require additional guidance/ support.

Drive integrated legal support to OQEP/ Stream through collaboration with Legal CoE s (Corporate, Operations)

Actively promote legal team career development (and overall legal team generally)

Providing guide and legal advice on OQEP legal processes/ activities and coordinate with legal firms (locally/ internationally) to ensure compliance.

Guide on how strategize OQEP legal process to various stakeholders among the Group.

Provide insights associated with key variance / legal trends arising from reports, forecasts and plans for upstream sector.

Guide and provide high support on planning, budgeting, forecasting and reporting practices / set of processes, as well as, documents, performance indicators (KPIs) and embed in day-to-day activities.

Guide & contribute on the development and implementation of departmental policies, systems, processes, procedures and controls, and continuously identify and recommend improvements while ensuring compliance with the group guidelines, international / local standards and relevant legislation.

Liaise with Value Partners, Shared Services, and other Centre of Excellence to provide seamless legal service delivery to customers.

Support the integration program as needed.

Coordinate of Legal and regulatory issues related to OQEP in line with financial, and technical advisors.

Ensures timely and compliant execution of significant OQEP contracts and catalogues, while maintaining custody of the same.

Advises on maintaining full compliance with OQEP contractual obligations, regulatory agencies and environmental laws

Support the development and oversee the implementation of Corporate Legal policies, systems, processes, procedures and controls covering all areas of Upstream so that all relevant procedural / legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering a quality, cost-effective service in a consistent manner.

Notable Working Conditions. Office environment, intensive computer screen use, sporadic visits to operation site.

Desired Candidate Profile

Minimum qualification required is a college graduate degree in law, Master or any other qualification is a plus.

Background and experience

Competencies and skills

10+ years experience in upstream oil and gas sector is crucial, preferred in a large oil industry industrial organization. E&P Transactional and operational expertise are essential, ideally both internationally and in Oman including the following sections:

  • EPSA and Concession agreements.
  • Joint Ventures and Joint Operating Agreements.
  • Gas Sale Agreement.
  • Oil Sales.
  • Unitization.
  • Processing Agreements.
  • EPC.
  • Dispute Resolution.
  • M & A (divestment, deal management, due diligence, understanding financial advisor opinions etc.).

Strong experience in:
