Roles & Responsibilities
One of our International Oilfield Services client is seeking a Principal Process Engineer (EPC) to be based in Cairo, Egypt.
Position Overview: The Principal Process Engineer will play a key role in delivering the process engineering scope for major EPC projects. The role involves developing and reviewing designs, ensuring technical integrity, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and supporting other project functions to meet project cost, schedule, and quality objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and review process deliverables, including HMBs, PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specifications, data sheets, design calculations, and line lists.
- Support technology selection investigations.
- Participate in mechanical and process simulations, material and energy balances, and process optimization studies.
- Prepare and verify equipment sizing and selection for pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, piping, and other process equipment.
- Ensure designs meet international codes and standards
(API,, ISO/EN, TEMA, PIP, etc.) and project-specific requirements. - Support HSE design integration, including process safety, overpressure protection, and hazard identification (HAZID/HAZOP).
- Provide process engineering input throughout FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, and commissioning phases.
- Support project planning, scheduling, and progress reporting for process work scopes.
- Ensure compliance with EPC contract requirements, client specifications, and quality standards.
- Participate in design review meetings (3D model reviews, P&ID reviews, constructability sessions, etc.).
- Conduct P&ID/PFD design reviews, HAZID/HAZOP and LOPA/SIL assessments.
- Collaborate with Instrument Engineering to develop automation and control schemes, control narratives and shutdown philosophies.
- Ensure adherence to applicable HSE and environmental regulations.
- Contribute to risk assessments, SIL reviews, and safety system design.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering (Masters preferred).
- 10+ years of relevant experience in process engineering roles within the EPC, oil & gas, petrochemical, or energy sectors.
- Strong understanding of engineering design principles, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and process simulation tools (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, PIPE-FLO, CFD, etc.).
- Familiarity with project execution in an EPC environment, including multidisciplinary coordination.
- Knowledge of industry codes and standards (API,, ISO, , NFPA, etc.).
- Experience in vendor document review, technical bid evaluations, and FAT/SAT participation.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving
skills. - Proficiency in CAD and Microsoft Office applications.
