Roles & Responsibilities

Position: Project Economics – Specialist

Department: Finance
Function: Project Economics / Capital Budgeting
Reports To: Manager – Management Accounting & Reporting

Job Purpose

The Project Economics – Specialist is responsible for conducting economic evaluations, financial modelling, and capital budgeting analyses to support strategic and operational decision-making. The role focuses on assessing large capital projects, investment opportunities, and project performance to ensure financial viability and alignment with organizational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Project Economics & Capital Budgeting

  • Perform detailed economic and financial evaluations of capital and operational projects.

  • Develop and maintain robust financial models for project appraisal and investment decision-making.

  • Conduct cost–benefit analysis, sensitivity analysis, and risk assessments for major projects.

  • Support management in evaluating investment proposals and strategic initiatives.

Project Performance & Post-Completion Review

  • Assess financial performance of ongoing and completed projects against approved business cases.

  • Conduct post-completion evaluations to measure actual versus projected benefits.

  • Identify efficiency gaps and recommend corrective or optimization measures.

Financial Analysis & Decision Support

  • Analyze cost structures, revenue models, and economic drivers impacting project returns.

  • Provide actionable insights to improve capital efficiency and financial sustainability.

  • Support budgeting and long-term financial planning with economic analysis.

Reporting & Stakeholder Support

  • Prepare clear, accurate, and timely reports and presentations for senior management.

  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to validate financial data and assumptions.

  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures, and reporting standards.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to enhance financial evaluation methodologies and tools.

  • Stay updated on industry best practices in project economics and corporate finance.

Qualifications.

Desired Candidate Profile

Minimum Qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance

  • CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) certification

Experience:

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in project economics, corporate finance, or capital budgeting.

  • Proven experience in evaluating large capital projects.

  • Experience in manufacturing, steel, oil & gas, or similar capital-intensive industries is preferred.

Key Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong expertise in financial modeling and project economics

  • Capital budgeting and investment appraisal

  • Corporate finance and company valuation

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong communication and presentation abilities

  • Stakeholder coordination and business partnering

  • Proficiency in Excel and financial modelling tools.
