Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Student Support & Counseling:

  • Provide individual and group counseling sessions to students facing personal, academic, emotional, or behavioral difficulties.
  • Assist students in developing coping strategies to manage stress, anxiety, depression, adjustment issues, and interpersonal conflicts.
  • Address crisis situations (e.g., suicidal ideation, trauma, or abuse) with immediate intervention and appropriate referrals.

B. Assessment & Treatment Planning:

  • Conduct psychological assessments and evaluations to identify students' mental health needs and challenges.
  • Develop and implement personalized treatment or support plans, including monitoring and follow-up.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of student cases and treatment progress.

C. Preventive & Developmental Programs:

  • Design and deliver workshops, seminars, and awareness campaigns on mental health, emotional intelligence, stress management, and positive behavioral habits.
  • Promote mental health education and early intervention strategies among students and staff.

D. Collaboration & Coordination:

  • Collaborate with academic advisors, faculty members, and student affairs staff to support students overall well-being.
  • Refer students to external specialized medical or psychiatric services when necessary and ensure proper case management.
  • Provide consultation and training for staff and faculty on how to recognize and address student mental health concerns.

E. Monitoring & Reporting:

  • Monitor trends in student mental health and recommend improvements to institutional policies or support mechanisms.
  • Prepare periodic reports on student mental health cases, challenges faced, and services provided while maintaining confidentiality.

Desired Candidate Profile

Qualification Master s or bachelor s degree in psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field.

Experience

Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in counseling, psychotherapy, or social support services.

Knowledge

  • Sound understanding of psychological theories and counseling methodologies.
  • Knowledge of developmental, behavioral, emotional, and social challenges among college students.
  • Familiarity with the educational and cultural context of Oman
  • Awareness of legal and ethical considerations related to student counseling and confidentiality.

Technical/Work-based Skills

  • Strong counseling, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Empathy, patience, and the ability to build trust with students.
  • Ability to assess situations quickly and respond appropriately.
  • Problem-solving and crisis management capabilities.

  • High degree of professionalism and emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and accurate documentation.
