Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
The Public Health Nurse will also contribute to clinical governance, ensure patient safety, and support continuous quality improvement initiatives while adhering to evidence-based contemporary guidelines.
This role involves delivering high-quality, patient-centered care and supporting public health initiatives, including health education, disease prevention, and health promotion.
A first-level degree/diploma as a Registered Nurse with a minimum of three (3) years progressive post-qualification clinical experience in general nursing
Postgraduate training, in Public Health with a minimum of three (3) years post-specialist qualification.
Currently registered and licensed to practice nursing and apply specialty without supervision in own country or another UN member state.
English proficiency- a minimum of Level B 2 is required.
Experience in international, humanitarian, or conflict-zone healthcare settings.
Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), or other relevant certifications.
Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple responsibilities in a high-pressure environment.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
Fluency in English; additional language skills are an advantage.
Shifts: Flexible working hours, with the expectation to work weekends, holidays, and night shifts when required 24/7.
Location: The role is based in Somalia within the UNSOS mission area.
Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, such as standing for extended periods in high-stress conditions, and managing physically intensive situations.
Provide clinical care for patients, including assessments, vaccinations, health education, and treatment for minor illnesses, ensuring alignment with UNSOS policies and international health standards.
Promote the implementation of community health programs and interventions in line with public health priorities.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design, implement, and evaluate public health strategies that meet the needs of the local population.
Monitor and ensure the accurate documentation of patient assessments, care plans, and outcomes.
Participate in audits, case reviews, and clinical governance activities to enhance patient care and ensure high standards of clinical practice.
Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in all aspects of care delivery.
Provide evidence-based care while adhering to infection control protocols, ensuring the health and safety of patients and healthcare staff.
Deliver routine health services, including health screenings, maternal and child health, immunization programs, and disease prevention initiatives.
Monitor patient safety, providing follow-up care as needed, and escalate concerns to relevant authorities.
Implement appropriate risk management strategies to address and mitigate public health issues and potential safety hazards.
Respond to public health emergencies and manage outbreaks of diseases, including conducting surveillance, providing necessary interventions, and coordinating with relevant stakeholders.
Educate communities on best practices for hygiene, sanitation, and preventive care to reduce the spread of infectious diseases.
Actively participate in the development and implementation of continuous quality improvement (CQI) programs aimed at enhancing the overall quality of public health services.
Regularly assess and evaluate the effectiveness of public health initiatives and services to identify opportunities for improvement.
Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop and improve patient care protocols, ensuring they align with the latest public health practices.
Engage in ongoing training, professional development, and knowledge-sharing to improve clinical skills and the quality of patient care provided.
Participate in health data collection, analysis, and reporting, providing insights to inform CQI initiatives and optimize public health interventions.
Offer suggestions and implement strategies for improving patient outcomes based on lessons learned from audits, feedback, and clinical performance.
Ensure that all clinical and public health services adhere to the most current evidence-based guidelines, best practices, and international standards (e.g., WHO, CDC).
Apply evidence-based practices in the prevention and management of communicable and non-communicable diseases, ensuring interventions are effective and up to date.
Stay informed of the latest research and public health trends, incorporating new findings into daily clinical practice and patient care activities.
Ensure compliance with guidelines for maternal and child health, vaccinations, emergency care, and other key public health programs.
Promote evidence-based practices in health education and community outreach, ensuring that public health messages are accurate, current, and effective.
Continuously review and update health promotion materials, protocols, and programs to ensure they reflect the latest evidence-based recommendations.
Promote ethical behaviour and alignment with Aspen Medical s Social Purpose and B Corp principles.
Perform any additional tasks and responsibilities as required by the role or organisation.
