Founded in 1969, Qatar Fertilizer Company (QAFCO) was established as a joint venture between several foreign shareholders and the Government of Qatar. Now owned by Industries Qatar (IQ) by 75% and Yara Netherland by 25%, the company has successfully implemented various expansion projects. Recognized as Qatar’s first large-scale venture in the petrochemical industry, the company has evolved as the largest single-site producer of urea and ammonia in the world, thereby making Qatar the biggest exporter of urea in the world.
