Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
Inspect the surface preparation, application, and curing of protective coatings on steel structures, pipelines, equipment, and other components to ensure compliance with Aramco standards and project specifications.
Verify that coating thickness, adhesion, and finish meet the specified requirements.
Conduct visual inspections of coating applications, ensuring proper coverage and identifying defects such as bubbles, cracks, and uneven coatings.
Ensure that surfaces are properly prepared before coating application, including cleaning, abrasive blasting, or other methods specified in the project requirements.
Inspect for cleanliness, proper roughness, and contamination levels to ensure coatings bond effectively.
Conduct tests such as coating thickness measurement, adhesion tests, holiday tests, and dry film thickness (DFT) checks to verify the coating meets project standards.
Perform environmental checks to ensure that coatings are applied under optimal conditions, such as temperature, humidity, and dew point.
Monitor the curing process to ensure coatings achieve the desired hardness and durability.
Maintain detailed records of inspections, tests, and findings, including reports on coating application, inspection results, and non-conformance issues.
Prepare and submit inspection reports, including photographs and detailed descriptions of the coating condition and any identified defects.
Document and track corrective actions taken for any deviations from the required coating standards.
Verify the quality and suitability of coating materials (paints, primers, coatings) used on the project, ensuring they meet the specifications outlined in the approved materials list.
Inspect the proper storage and handling of coating materials to ensure they remain within required temperature and humidity ranges, preventing degradation or contamination.
Identify and document any non-conformance to coating specifications, material failures, or defects during application.
Recommend corrective actions and verify that they are implemented by the contractors or application teams.
Follow up on rework and re-inspection of areas where coating defects or issues were identified.
Work closely with contractors, coating applicators, and engineers to resolve quality issues and ensure that coating standards are met.
Provide guidance to site teams on proper coating application methods and troubleshooting any problems encountered during the process.
Assist in reviewing project specifications to ensure the correct type of coating is used for the intended purpose.
Ensure that all coating application procedures are carried out following health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations and Aramco's safety guidelines.
Monitor the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) during coating application and ensure that hazardous materials are handled and disposed of safely.
Participate in internal and external audits to assess coating quality, adherence to standards, and compliance with Aramco s requirements.
Support the preparation for audits by ensuring that all necessary documentation, reports, and inspection records are available.
Desired Candidate Profile
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or related field (preferred).
Aramco-approved QC Coating Inspector certification (required for this role).
Minimum 5-8 years of experience in coating inspection, particularly in oil and gas or heavy industry applications.
In-depth knowledge of coating materials, application techniques, and industry standards (e.g., SSPC, NACE, ISO).
Familiarity with Aramco's coating specifications, standards, and guidelines.
Attention to Detail: Ability to spot defects, inconsistencies, and deviations in coating applications and materials.
Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of coating materials, surface preparation, application methods, and testing procedures.
Inspection and Testing Skills: Proficiency in conducting coating-related tests, such as adhesion, thickness, and holiday tests, with the ability to interpret results accurately.
Problem-Solving: Ability to identify issues and suggest corrective actions to resolve non-conformities in coating applications.
Documentation and Reporting: Strong skills in maintaining detailed records, generating reports, and managing inspection data.
Communication Skills: Effective communication with engineers, contractors, and site teams to ensure quality standards are met.
