Roles & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Inspection of Welding Processes:

  • Oversee welding operations to ensure adherence to approved welding procedures, project specifications, and Aramco standards.
  • Monitor welding techniques, including pre-welding setup, joint fit-up, and weld bead quality.
  • Inspect welds for defects such as cracks, porosity, undercuts, and incomplete fusion.

Review of Welding Procedures and Qualifications:

  • Review and approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Qualification Tests (WQT) for compliance with project requirements.
  • Ensure that welders are certified and qualified for the specific welding procedures and materials being used.

Material Verification:

  • Verify that base metals, filler materials, and consumables meet project specifications and Aramco-approved standards.
  • Inspect storage and handling of welding materials to ensure they are free from contamination and stored under proper conditions.

Non-Destructive Testing (NDT):

  • Coordinate and monitor NDT activities such as radiographic testing (RT), ultrasonic testing (UT), magnetic particle testing (MT), and dye penetrant testing (PT).
  • Review and interpret NDT results to ensure welds meet required quality and safety standards.
  • Identify and document any weld defects and ensure corrective actions are taken.

Compliance with Codes and Standards:

  • Ensure welding activities comply with Aramco s standards as well as international codes such as ASME, AWS, API, and ISO.
  • Verify that all welding-related activities align with local regulations and site-specific requirements.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Prepare and maintain accurate inspection records, including welding maps, NDT reports, and welder performance logs.
  • Generate and submit detailed inspection reports, highlighting any non-conformances, corrective actions, and final acceptance of welds.
  • Maintain a database of welding consumables, material certificates, and quality documentation.

Monitoring Preheat and Post-Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT):

  • Ensure preheat and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) are carried out as per approved procedures and specifications.
  • Verify temperature controls and monitor the heat treatment process to prevent weld-related defects.

Quality Assurance and Non-Conformance Management:

  • Identify and document non-conformance issues in welding activities and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
  • Coordinate with contractors and engineers to resolve quality issues promptly and efficiently.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for recurring welding defects and implement preventive measures.

Coordination with Project Teams:

  • Work closely with project managers, construction supervisors, and quality control teams to address welding-related concerns and ensure timely project delivery.
  • Assist in the training and guidance of welders and site staff to improve quality and efficiency.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure that all welding operations adhere to Aramco's safety and environmental regulations.
  • Monitor the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with safe work practices during welding activities.
  • Conduct regular site audits to identify potential safety hazards in welding operations.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SAW), metallurgy, and defect identification.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to identify defects or discrepancies in welds and ensure compliance with stringent quality standards.
  • Problem-Solving: Capability to troubleshoot welding-related issues and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Communication Skills: Clear and concise communication for reporting findings, coordinating with contractors, and liaising with engineers.
  • Documentation: Proficient in maintaining detailed inspection records, generating reports, and interpreting technical drawings.
  • Safety Awareness: Strong knowledge of HSE regulations and best practices in welding operations.

Desired Candidate Profile

Qualifications:

Bachelor s degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Metallurgy preferred) or a related technical field.

Aramco-approved QC Welding Inspector certification (required for this role).

Certification in welding inspection (e.g., CSWIP 3.1/3.2, AWS-CWI, or equivalent).

Minimum 5-10 years of experience in welding inspection, particularly in oil and gas projects.
