Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

OVERALL PURPOSE OF ROLE:

Ensure that all ship repair, fabrication, and industrial works are executed in accordance with approved specifications, drawings, class requirements, client standards, and regulatory requirements, while maintaining complete inspection and documentation control.

  1. Key Responsibilities

A. Quality Planning & Documentation

  • Review project specifications, drawings, method statements, ITPs (Inspection & Test Plans), and procedures.

  • Prepare Project Quality Plan (PQP) where required.

  • Ensure availability of approved WPS, PQR, procedures, and inspection formats.

  • Maintain document control for all QA/QC records.

B. Incoming Material Inspection

  • Verify incoming materials against MTCs (Mill Test Certificates) and purchase specifications.

  • Ensure proper material identification, traceability, and marking.

  • Raise material inspection reports (MIR) and NCRs if required.

C. In-Process Inspection (Ship Repair & Workshop)

  • Conduct stage inspections for:

  • Steel renewal and fabrication works

  • Piping fabrication and installation

  • Welding fit-up and welding activities

  • NDT coordination and verification

  • Mechanical equipment installation

  • Ensure compliance with approved drawings and tolerances.

Keep photographs of all relevant components/systems/areas before and after the job. Take videos of various tests undertaken during the projects and maintain in the system for record.

D. Welding & NDT Quality Control

  • Verify welder qualifications and validity.

  • Ensure welding consumables storage and control.

  • Monitor preheating, welding parameters, and post-weld activities.

  • Coordinate NDT activities (UT, RT, PT, MT) and review reports.

E. Final Inspection & Handover

  • Conduct final inspection before client / class survey.

  • Ensure completion of punch points.

  • Prepare and submit inspection dossiers, completion dossiers, and quality records.

F. Non-Conformance & Corrective Actions

  • Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for deviations.

  • Monitor corrective and preventive actions.

  • Ensure closure of NCRs before project completion.

G. Client / Class Coordination

  • Arrange inspections with Client representatives, Class surveyors, and Third-party inspectors.

  • Provide required documentation and inspection records during surveys.

H. Workshop Quality Control

  • Monitor fabrication tolerances, dimensional checks, and fit-up inspections.

  • Verify calibration status of measuring instruments.

  • Ensure quality compliance during machining, fabrication, and assembly works.

  1. Daily Reporting & Records

  • Maintain daily inspection reports.

  • Record welding, NDT, and inspection activities.

  • Track status of open inspections, NCRs, and punch items.

Desired Candidate Profile

  1. Skills & Competency Requirements

  • Knowledge of ship repair standards, marine class rules, and industrial fabrication practices.

  • Familiarity with welding codes (AWS, ASME, ISO).

  • Ability to read engineering drawings and specifications.

  • Strong documentation and reporting discipline.

  • Good coordination skills with production, project, and subcontract teams.

  1. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Number of inspection rejections / rework cases.

  • Timely completion of inspections and documentation.

  • NCR closure effectiveness.

  • Client / Class inspection acceptance rate.

  • Compliance with quality procedures and traceability requirements.
