Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
- Cost Management: Develop detailed cost estimates and budgets for joinery and fit-out projects, ensuring alignment with project specifications.
Monitor and track project costs throughout the lifecycle of the project, including variations and change orders.
Control and minimize costs, identify cost-saving opportunities, and ensure value engineering is applied without compromising quality. - Contract Administration: Evaluate tenders from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring that all bids are competitive and aligned with the project requirements.
Negotiate and manage contracts with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure fair terms and avoid disputes. - Project Financial Reporting: Provide regular cost reports, including forecasts, to project managers, clients, and senior management.
Report on the financial performance of projects, highlighting areas of concern and recommending corrective actions.
Ensure all financial records, including invoices, payments, and claims, are accurate and up-to-date. - Procurement and Subcontractor Management: Oversee the procurement process for materials and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with the project’s specifications and quality standards.
Ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of materials and services, balancing quality with budget requirements.
Manage subcontractor accounts, including reviewing payment applications, monitoring performance, and ensuring adherence to contract terms. - Value Engineering and Cost Control: Provide input into value engineering and cost-saving solutions during the design and implementation phases.
Review design documents and specifications to identify potential cost-saving opportunities while maintaining the project’s quality standards. - Risk Management and Dispute Resolution: Identify potential financial risks and advise the project team on proactive measures.
Manage any disputes or claims that may arise during the project, liaising with legal advisors and ensuring that the company’s interests are protected.
Monitor and manage project risks related to changes in scope, costs, or unforeseen challenges. - Client Liaison and Management: Act as the key point of contact for clients regarding financial matters and ensure regular communication throughout the project.
Manage relationships with clients, ensuring that their expectations are met regarding costs, quality, and timelines.
Provide clients with transparent and detailed cost reports and attend meetings to discuss project progress and financial status. - Compliance and Reporting: Ensure that all work complies with current legislation, building regulations, and contractual obligations.
Prepare and submit any necessary documentation to regulatory bodies or authorities.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Education: Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum 5-8 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor, with significant experience in joinery and fit-out projects.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in using QS software and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Project).
- Strong Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of joinery and fit-out construction processes, contract law, cost management, and procurement.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex cost data, identify trends, and develop strategic solutions.
- Negotiation Skills: Excellent negotiation skills for managing contracts, disputes, and supplier relationships.
- Leadership: Strong leadership and team management capabilities, with experience managing or mentoring junior staff.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) for working with clients, subcontractors, and project teams.
