Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
JOB PURPOSE:
- Maintaining overall marine communication at Port of Sultan Qaboos (PSQ) which include the communication between ships and the port, coordinating between operations, pilots and tug crew, maintaining communication in emergencies and relevant recordkeeping.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Coordinate the movement of all vessels in the port area and ensure a safe passage without risk of colliding with other vessels or shore installations.
- Monitoring all vessels traffic within Port of Sultan Qaboos limits including berthing, unberthing, shifting, anchoring, laying and towing.
- Maintain communication with the ships within the PSQ s limits and advice the ships approaching to PSQ from 5 NM distance.
- Communicate with senior s staff in Port, operations, pilot & tug crew in all operational and emergency responses.
- Maintain the communication with ROP coast guard, custom, immigration, royal navy of Oman & royal yachts for all channel movements, anchorage movements and safety maters.
- Communicate with government departments (Ministry of Communication & Transport, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Environment & Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and shipping agents.
- Maintain the port control log book for all activities performed.
- Contact concerned authorizes in case of emergencies incidents such as pollution, accident & fire in Port of Sultan Qaboos area and surrounding area.
- Maintain confidential all information between the port Control Tower & deferent security departments.
- Issuing gate pass for entering to the port after duty hours and holidays in any emergency case after obtaining the permission form Port Manager.
- Monitoring all floating marine light buoy (navigation buoy, lateral marks buoy, cardinal buoy, safe water marks buoy, isolate danger marks buoy) & report to authority and AMNAS.
- Compiling daily report to operations regarding all vessels movement for invoicing and statistics.
- Granting approval for sail to the vessels for sailing through ROP custom system (BAYAN).
- Comply with all HSSE procedures.
- Respect and comply all Asyad ports business guidelines, rules and ethics and preserve the confidentiality of all Asyad ports affairs.
- Any other relevant tasks as directed by Manager.
Qualification, Experience and Skills:
Qualification:
- High school certificate.
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of basic maritime safety.
- Knowledge of basic marine regulations for marine crafts more than 500 GT.
- Knowledge of port rules and regulations.
Skills:
- Relevant computer proficiency, experience in using e-mail, Microsoft Package and/or any relevant software.
- Fluency in English both oral and written, fluency in Arabic is desirable.
- Time management, communication and interpersonal skills.
