Key Responsibilities


1. Patient Care & Preparation

Receive, identify, and prepare patients for imaging procedures.


Explain procedures, answer questions, and reassure patients to reduce anxiety.


Ensure correct patient positioning for accurate imaging.


Monitor patients during procedures, especially in emergency and critical care settings.


2. Imaging Procedures

Operate imaging equipment such as:


X-ray


CT (Computed Tomography)


MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)


Ultrasound (in some roles)


Mammography


Capture high-quality diagnostic images following protocols.


3. Safety & Compliance

Ensure radiation safety for patients, staff, and self (ALARA principle: As Low As Reasonably Achievable).


Use protective equipment (lead aprons, shields) and follow safety regulations.


Maintain accurate patient records and follow confidentiality standards.


4. Collaboration & Communication

Work with radiologists (doctors specialized in interpreting images).


Communicate effectively with healthcare teams for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.


Provide essential information to referring doctors.


5. Technical & Equipment Management

Set up, operate, and maintain imaging equipment.


Perform quality control checks to ensure images are clear and accurate.


Report equipment malfunctions and coordinate repairs.


6. Specialized Roles (Depending on Setting)

Therapeutic Radiographers work in cancer care, delivering radiotherapy treatments.


Diagnostic Radiographers focus on imaging to detect and diagnose diseases.


Interventional Radiography assist in minimally invasive procedures (e.g., guided biopsies, angiography).


7. Professional Development

Stay updated with new imaging technologies and safety standards.


Participate in research, audits, and training programs.


Adhere to ethical and professional codes of conduct.
