Reference Librarian German University in Cairo

The German University in Cairo is looking for a highly able and motivated applicant wishing to join as a Reference Librarian. The successful candidate will be expected to provide reference and information services to students, faculty, and staff in support of academic teaching and research.

Responsibilities include:

• Providing reference services at public service desks, including occasional night shifts, and responding to electronic reference queries.
• Choosing appropriate sources based on the question and the user s level of expertise.
• Approaching and assisting individuals who may need help with research or information needs.
• Staying up to date with new resources and tools added to the collection or available online.
• Guiding users in the use of research tools and databases for GUC courses.
• Preparing instructional guides and research aids as needed or requested.
• Recommending titles for purchase for the reference collection.

Qualifications:

• Candidates should hold a B.A. in Library and Information Science or a related field and preferably have 3 5 years of experience in reference or academic library services. Candidates should demonstrate strong service orientation, familiarity with academic research tools, and the ability to assist users effectively.

Job Requirements:

• Fluent English language skill, and German would be an additional asset.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Proficiency in or knowledge of using a variety of library systems and computer applications (e.g. library databases, catalog systems, Office package, etc.).
• Effective administrative skills, including the ability to organize and prioritize workload to meet deadlines while maintaining a high degree of accuracy.
• Proactive initiative and ability to make decisions.
• Creativity and work resilience within the scope of work & resourceful problem-solving.
• Ability to work and interact efficiently with all levels of colleagues and patrons.
