BICU is a highly specialized eight-bed ICU specifically designed to manage severe burn cases requiring ICU and plastics management. The unit was the first of its kind in the Middle East and is a leader in managing and caring for the severely burnt.

The nurses in this unit are highly skilled and dedicated to addressing this complex and challenging patient group. The BICU, to render care to these patients, has its own OR within the confines of the unit and a wide range of multidisciplinary health care professionals, all experts in Burn management and all working together to get the best outcomes for the Burn patient.

Patient Population:

• Adults Burn patients.

Age14 years and above ventilated & non-ventilated Burn patients.

Mixed Gender.

Hours of Operation: 24 hours / 7 days a week.

No of Beds: 8 Beds plus Burn Outpatient Dressing Clinic.

Occupancy Rate: 98-100%.

Primary Diagnosis

• Major and minor Burn injuries.
• High and low acuity injuries.
• Patients with Burns and multiple organ failure.
• Outpatient Burn dressing clinic.
• Sepsis.
• ICU overflow.

Primary Procedures

• Airway management including ventilator support.
• Percutaneous Tracheostomy.
• Haemodynamic monitoring, invasive lines.
• Wound care inpatients and outpatients.
• Moderate sedation.
• Enteral and Parenteral Feeding.
• Haemodialysis/CRRT.
• Inotropic administration according to protocol.
• Psychological support.
• Rehabilitation.
